Mosconi cup shirts?

The Mosconi Cup emblem is horrible as it is. How can a classy Italian name like this be butchered? The jersey itself has a cool two-tone design but you got the colorful emblem with the colorful Poker logos...ugh. And the price point will be a real seller with all the avid pool players around the world.... This costs more than a Soccer Jersey. Universe Clothings entire line is overpriced and their logo looks like some disease awareness campaign. Fails all over.

Okay, guys. I don't know much about this company, but I do know good quality. I'm a professional shopper. ;)

The quality of this clothing *is* better than most polo shirts and T-shirts currently on the market in our pool world. It is made with a better cloth and will last more washings. I've seen their products. I don't own any, but I've seen them up front and close. They are good quality.

One thing that puzzles me, and it might just be my legal mind in action, is if this company has permission to print that logo. Not sure and don't care, but it is something that popped in my mind. :p

I agree that $95 is a high number. I don't think I'd pay that much, even for a high-quality shirt, unless I had money to burn, which I don't. It is a nice keepsake, however, for this event. :)

I know I feel foolish when I've purchased T-shirts at rock concerts for 50 bucks or paid $8 for a beer (not for me) or $5 for a hot dog at a baseball game. That's kind of how it is at events. Everybody jacks the price up.

It is a shame that nobody else has capitalized on this market for officially sanctioned items of the Mosconi Cup. Maybe there's not enough pool public with expendable funds to make that a worthwhile endeavor for anyone.:sorry:

I'd definitely buy a baseball cap from the Mosconi Cup, and FWIW, I like these shirts. I think the design is cool. They will emphasize a man's shoulders, giving him a T-shape like a muscle man, unless you wear a 3X. :grin-square:

I'm glad you posted this and I'm surprised that he admitted that.

He's giving the players some shirts for free and jacking up the price for the consumer, so that he can recover his lost profits. Good for him, bad for the consumer. He openly admitted that he is making a larger profit to cover lost profits. Giving the team members a free polo shirt does not support the team. It's free advertising for Universe Clothing. I'm gonna take my business elsewhere

As I'm more than aware of a few things about this subject, let me just try to give you some pointers about how this works:

- Universe is a sponsor of the event, as are Diamond, Aramith, Simonis and Predator.

- They provide the shirts for the players as part of an agreement with the tournament. Diamond provides a table, Aramith the balls, Simonis the cloth, Predator chalk and bridges (plus a cue for the MVP in 2013). They probably all pay a fee to be official partners (which is a casual sponsoring deal), and to avoid anyone else from claiming they are Mosconi Cup partners.

- Universe uses the official logo with the official sponsor without whom the tournament wouldn't exist.

- Matchroom pays all expenses related to the players and coaches, as they always have. People often oversee this in the real cost of the tournament, too.

- Price point could be discussed, but for the quality I think it's fair. I've seen these first hand on the players many times and the fabric and crafting all look excellent.

Now, about the logos: Universe, Partypoker... How is this all different from buying any Nascar driver's replica shirt with dozens of sponsors on it???

Anyone of you ever too the "Camel" out of the "Camel Pro Billiards Series" shirts??? I'm sure not. So why would you want to take the Partypoker out?

There's no such thing as "free advertising for Universe". They make and give more than 50 pieces of apparel for this year alone (10 players + 2 coaches x 4 days - that's without counting the added coaches and players on USA's side).

Well, there you have it. Thanks for chiming in, JP. I would have never known that if you had not provided the details.

Now I feel like buying one of those shirts. It is a shame that I like the blue Euro color better than the dark red American color. What does this mean? Decisions, decisions. :D

Price point was exactly my point. I don't think it's good practice to jack up your price, because there may be some lost profits. Supply and demand is a wonderful thing, but I don't see a $95 advertisement having much of a demand, judging by other members posts.

I've spent more money on dumber things, and was at the site hovering over the "buy" button. A few things stopped me:

I don't know how the 2 buttons on the collar looks in person, but it looks funny in the pictures. With the shirts being "slim fit" I don't know if I need a large or extra large. Finally, 100% polyester shirts usually don't breathe well, and in spite of the claims that this shirt is designed to breathe and accommodate motion, I'm not willing to take a $95 chance on a shirt that I can't stand wearing.

it's a shame that for the 2nd year in a row, no one took advantage of the generous offers of 3 AZBers to provide Mosconi tshirts at cost ($8). it could have raised a ton of money for the US Team to do promos throughout this year.

make sure you know what you're ordering for these shirts. last year, the two teams' shirts were completely different designs:

USA - cotton/poly knit weave & loose fit (like a true polo shirt)
EUR - poly/microfiber slick hand & tight fit (like their pants ;))

as for the $95 price - there is an 800% markup on apparel. it's concerning that the owner stated that he wasn't producing many pre-Mosconi. that tells me he's taking pre-orders, cause he doesn't want to run a big cutting & only wants to do it once. if he'd drop his price in half, he could sell twice as many - and net the same $ (if not more).
