Mosconi Cup Team USA Party before Blackpool

You just can't let it go, continuing to blame these three young men for a decision they made that has absolutely no effect on you.

nor on the team, since they were never (in any sense of the word) part of the team.

But of course you're right that Lou can't let go. He'll ride his high horse until it dies under his bloated BS then beat it some more. Been his MO for years.

You're a sad and miserable person Lou.

oh goodie, Jay. We've reached the point in the proceeding in which we drop all pretense of comity and civility, lol. Well, here you go. You are nothing more than an old, sad, miserable, broken down sycophant to the players you want to cozy up to.

syc·o·phant

ˈsikəˌfant,ˈsikəfənt/
noun
noun: sycophant; plural noun: sycophants

a person who acts obsequiously toward someone important in order to gain advantage.
synonyms: yes-man, bootlicker, brown-noser, toady, lickspittle, flatterer, flunky, lackey, spaniel, doormat, stooge, cringer, suck, suck-up
"I thought you wanted someone who would speak to the subject of pool players in an objective manner, not a blithering sycophant."

Hope everyone is happy now :-)

So true, I have never seen a more arrogant and instigative poster on AZ than Lou. He has his own agenda and seems to have no remorse of doing his best to degrade the 3 players that were not picked. My very first experience with Lou was a smart ass remark and then informing me I was on ignore which turned out to be a good thing seeing as he could easily set me off with his smug comments. After about a year he took the time to quote me and inform me I was back on ignore. The reason I brought this up is because it shows that he wants to hear nothing anyone else has to say. I've never seen him change his view no matter what was put in front of him to prove different.
Great post btw

How about Lou talking about courtesy and considerate behavior towards others and civility (perhaps this is his weak attempt at comedy)? He goes out of his way to irritate and attack anyone he can in his
sneaky little way where he pretends the other person started it. He is an admitted liar and will go out of his way to trash anyone or anything he can with his lies.

You know what the worst of AzBilliards is? It's a thread like this that deteriorates into a divide, resulting in a gang of bullies, some of whom are multipled-identitied or banned members posting.

We get it. Everybody has a difference of opinion. Say the Serenity Prayer, if you will, but you're not going to change anyone's stance on this topic.

When cherished members of AzBilliards are at odds with each other, it's hard to read. Most people, no matter whose side they fall on, remain silent for fear of upsetting their friends. As far as the multiple-identitied or banned members posting, they are who really do damage to this pool forum, and it's a doggone shame.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. --Martin Luther King, Jr.

Sorry Jam,
just wanted Lou to know I had a warm spot in my heart for him. :D

Your posts are generally fun and happy. I enjoy reading them.:)

Some members here have long-established vendettas and beefs with others, and when an opportunity like this arises with two cherished members at odds with each other, it gives the multiple-identified and banned members posting the chance to dig a knife in the wound of this thread and twist it with mean-spirited, hurtful words. They go all out. This is not you.

It was a great turn out last night from the greater St. Louis pool community and the joint was filled to the rafters. The set up was very nice and Mark's stepson, a professional DJ, kept things moving and the energy up, while Cathy Wilson and additional volunteers kept things moving with games and raffles. A lot of money was raised to support the team. Way to go STL.

The play of the team members was stellar and the Euros are going to have their hands full. SVB, was of course, amazing. And Justin Bergman is completely dialed in. John Schmidt looked real solid. Justin Hall appeared to be in dead stroke. Corey Deuel was also hitting them well, though I wish he'd tone down some of the exotic stuff. But then again, its Corey we're talking about.

And then there was Nick Varner, cycling through matches with the team members. Nick was pretty amazing. Twice early on, he effortlessly laid down a couple of amazing shots that reflected his knowledge, experience, and touch. One was a back cut to a side pocket that sent the CB three rails to come up perfectly, a diamond's distance, from a three ball sitting on the long rail. Anther came after his opponent played a safe and Nick just walked up and shot at the OB caroming it off another ball to hide it. Really elegant and beautiful.

I had the chance to say hello to a number of folks I know here locally, as well as to vice captains Don Wardell and Amir Pishdad. I was also able to personally wish good luck luck to Justin Bergman and my good buddy John Schmidt.

I also got a chance to speak to captain Mark Wilson. We talked about a number of things, some of which he referred to as "locker room talk," that he asked me not to share. But one thing was clear to me: since January, when he got the call from Matchroom to be the MC captain, Mark has worked tirelessly, *every single day,* to put the team together and do whatever it takes to win at Blackpool. I joked with Mark that he had visibly aged since I last saw him at the DCC and he said that he sees it too when he looks in the mirror.

In all honesty, I don't believe we have ever seen anything in American pool that remotely comes close to this kind of team building effort. Mark and the lads deserve our support and respect.

Go USA.

Mr. Figueroa,

This is the best post of this string. I have re-read it in different ways several times; my favourite being to read it aloud doing my superb imitation of Howard Cosell. (I wish that I would have recorded that one for posterity)

When you described that Nick Varner shot, it was almost like being in the room.

I hope that you do not think that I am being a sycophant when I say how much it means to me to be able to be a part of a billiard community (AZ) that is home to those like yourself, who from this post, seem to know everyone and would deign to share this experience with others not so well connected. Detractors like Jay should drop to their knees and thank the pool gods for having the good fortune to be able to read about a world they could only wish to be a part of.

I would love to see a separate thread from you, cleverly disguised of course to protect the confidence in which it was given, in which you could regale us further about the locker room talk with Mark Wilson, perhaps under a pseudonym (definition: a fictitious name used by an author to conceal his or her identity. Note: I provide this definition, and others (d': ) not for yourself as surely you do not need this, but for others who may read this and not be as well versed in the use of big words like you are).

I also love the clever way that you were able to demonstrate in the second last paragraph that Mark could, perhaps, be making this more about himself and less about the team and makeup thereof.

Finally, I would be remiss if I did not chastise (d: the act of scolding) Jay for his comments to you.

Jay, I rebuke (d:express sharp disapproval or criticism of someone because of their behavior or actions)you, yes rebuke you, for not being cognizant (d:having knowledge or being aware) of the many great contributions that Mr. Figueroa has made to the pool world. He is clearly in the know. He moves in the highest circles, knows the movers and shakers and the players personally and I daresay that he not only generously keeps the rest of us up to date in terms of what is happening in the pool world in real time but also lets us know what our opinion should be about those events.

I think that HE should write a book and then the rest of us could enjoy the pool world in a vicarious (d: felt or enjoyed through imagined participation in the feeling of others) way as we read of his many contributions to, and adventures, in the pool world.

Ha! I first read the above post as earnest, and then as sarcastic. I can't decide which way I like it better, but it works either way.

Very funny post Jerry. Too bad it is a dying thread and most won't get to read it. You should follow eloquent Lou around to sing his praises so he doesn't get lonely anymore singing them to himself.
