This is a very old trick shot. I first saw it in the 1970s at some pro event where the players were swapping shots on the practice table. The eight was one ball off the first diamond. There was a single blocker hung in the side. The cueball pockets the blocker. Plain draw. Adjust the cut angle to get the cue ball there first.

The shot might be in the books by Joe Hood and Willie Jopling.
