Customers are tough too
I think it's also worth noting that customers are tough to please too. I've known a guy who has had more than 5 different pool tables in his house and has not been happy with a single one--some of these have been $10k+ tables
Pool players in general range so widely in character--many of us have gambling roots--that I can't imagine trying to ensure that we as customers are happy or that we as customers pay on time. For all the stories of folks getting ripped off, we rarely hear the stories of cuemakers pulling their hair out when dealing with customers. And yet we have customers have such high standards; if we're not happy, then we're willing to let the world know who wronged us....
I don't mean this post to negate your advice--it's certainly important to keep track of the rip off cuemakers that have passed through AZ, but I think there are far more challenging customers on the forum than there are rip off cuemakers, and it's important to realize that we're not always a dream to deal with.
Thank Gawd we have cuemakers willing to build pool cues for players.

Yep.
I have my own short list of "respected" cuemakers who are holding-up, or have held-up customers on delivering cues or restorations. Some big collectors and respected people known to many on this forum have shared stories with me that would make your hair stand-up.
The problem facing the customer in discussing the problem publicly lies in the fact that he/she is at the mercy of the cuemaker who is holding their deposit, or in the case of a restoration or conversion, their cue(s).
I bite my tongue when these makers are recommended to me.
