Mottey?

cue

Looks like a old szamboti. But the nipples on the shaft inserts one of them doesn't match..And the collar rings on the shafts one of them is not a gus I think. If I had it in my hands ,look for the glue around the joint pin, plus other things to look for. Buy it send it to barry and take the wrap off and the story is told. Them it is or isn't a szamboti Rich aka the skunk.

One shaft trim doesn't match. Something weird about his writeup too. Regardless, it is a nice looking cue.

It looks to be a well made cue and one that I have seen before. My gut tells me Richard Black or maybe even an older Tasc.

I can't afford to bid on the cue, I just want to know who built it to satisfy my curiosity.

Another clue would be the wood around the shaft joint inserts. Not many makers do this and it is more common to see them in phenolic with smaller collets.

This seller is a dickhead who always says his old cues are Szamboti cues. It's almost certainly a Black that he's trying to sell for a fortune.

He even reused his line about not being able to afford having Barry authenticate it. He's used that line several times before.

I am with you on your identification of a Black. Looks like a quality build and maybe worth the asking price.

It could be.....I hope he gets a lump of coal for Christmas.

I am not going to bid on it either way......I am cue poor and the wife just went on disability.

Seems to be a quality built cue from what I can tell from the pictures but I certainly don't like the fact that he stopped a previous auction after the bidding started to rise.

A lot have said Richard Black. I would say no. His "After Six" model had shorter maple boxes in the buttsleeve. Also, his points were generally shorter than this cue. Also, his bumper was smaller in diameter than this one.

All the best,
WW

Looks just like my Szam. Hard to tell on a phone. I won't be a bidder.

For a "vintage" cue, it sure looks like its never been played.

Could be a JW

Could be a straight up fake/copy.

I recall seeing both Richard Blacks and Mottey unsigned in the past.

It would seem that we have about and even split between Black and Mottey. Interesting cue indeed with the looks of at least three if not four different makers.
