I got this on a trade deal, I know little about Movado watches but know they are faked quite often, maybe someone looking at the pictures can tell me a bit more or let me know if it is the real deal. Has box, manual and is in good shape with a new battery, some scratches on face, back of watch and general finish wear that I could not get to show up in pictures so understand its not perfect, it was worn regularly by an older gentleman. Looking for a cue, PM me with what you have, include pictures. Here are the pictures of the watch.

Hey Lenny...Nobody can tell if a watch is legit from pics, unless it was a horrible replica. The good news is quartz watches, the kind that require batteries, aren't often replicas but could be. Usually mechanical timepieces are the ones copied. The Chinese make almost all of them.

Authentification of a Movado is easy. Most large malls have at least one official dealer. Any dealer or good jeweler can authenticate and appraise that for you...Tom

Thanks for the info Tom, will bring it to a dealer or Jeweler to find out for sure. Either way its a nice watch, very sleek and classy.

Hi,

I also have a Movado watch I listed for trade here and of course and that's the #1 question/answer other's ask and why they're hesistant. Take it to your nearest big box jeweler, (NOT ANY PAWN SHOP) and they will be able to tell you if it's authentic, a ballpark value (if modern) and maybe even see if it's been registered.

Keep in mind, with any watch, the boxes can be purchased off eBay, so that doesn't mean much. Most of the the paperwork (besides Warranty card and Serial # registration) can be purchased, and of course, replicas can be made to look very real using just ONE real component. I first go by weight. Mine weighs just under 16oz! Typically, not always, fakes are very flimsy and have no weight to them.

It's a shame there are people/businesses that ruin the timepiece market for the rest of us by placing one REAL component onto a completely different, cheap watch and claim it's "genuine."

My .02. Please take it to your local jeweler.

Taemin
