A Gunsmoke episode was totally wrapped around pool. I think Albert Finney was the guest star. A great episode for pool players.
It seems I have seen pool in all of the old long running cartoons. Tom and Jerry have one great pool episode, not educational but very well put together and funny. There is a shorter sequence too. I seem to remember a Loony Tunes/Merry Melodies episode or more around a pool table. I was getting up at six AM before I was old enough to go to school to watch cartoons. I think I remember Popeye and Bluto in a pool setting too.
With the real life eye candy, I was fourteen the first time I played pool in a topless joint. It was around the corner and two doors down from where I worked then ran a business. No big deal, the second self serve gas station in a good sized city, I got one or two customers a day from three to twelve midnight. Then around the corner to play pool and for educational purposes! There was a lady that looked like a Vargas cartoon and played in, or out of, uniform as they all did!
I didn't turn a hair over later incidents. One of the lowest dives I think I ever found was on a bayou. A little gal in there had a most amazing dress. When she bent over to shoot you could see she wasn't wearing a bra or panties. The whole front of her dress would drop down a foot or more! A gal was with a man I was playing. When I was shooting in the money ball to end out match she bent over the hole, reached up, and pulled her tits out. I said, "not bad, but I have seen better" and fired the ball in, carefully. The shot was half a bar table and straight in, a set of tits wasn't causing me to miss that!
John Wayne in Big Jake, didn't he fight the monster at a pool table in the boom town? Not sure.
It seemed like a pool table in a bar or pool hall was the cue for a fight scene in every TV show or movie for awhile. I believe the first Walker, Texas Ranger had a fight scene with pool table in a bar in Mexico. I don't remember if the pool equipment factored into the fight, seemed like it might not have.
The four hundred sixty-eight and counting list gives some idea of the number of pool tables in movies. Oh yeah, can add Jr Bonner with Steve McQueen and All My Heroes Have Been Cowboys the Scott Glenn remake too.
Just a few.
