All of the movie threads latley have got me to thinking,,,,
If a remake or sequel were to be made, who would you want to see in the film ?
somebody mentioned Paul Sorvino as Fats in a remake..... who would play Eddie?
I have always thought that Robert Deniro is a perfect fit as the stake horse.. they look almost alike... plus Bobby D would tear that part up ...

I just dont see the "Eddie"....who do ya think it might be?

and
what do you see as the story for a sequel.. Newman is too old to do it again and Cruise is too weird....

Shane
bored and waiting on the kickoff

i'll have to think more about who as an actor but i know i'd like to see an actor that played pool as a hobby and didn't start when they started the film.i hear dmx playes ok

right on.... thats kinda what started me thinking about this....
the video of Paul playing Thorsten.... he could be Fatts for sure.. decent stroke...

i'd like to see a pro in the movie if they could pull it off. alex pagulyan seems outgoing enough to be a newer character in the movie

I think this is an interesting question, though I think remaking such a classic, is a bad idea...
But just for fun, I too thought Paul Sovrino would make and interesting Fats, as Fast Eddie, I am going to say Jason Lewis from Sex in the City. He actually plays, or use too when he was still a struggling actor (but very successful model) and was pretty good (C level maybe) and it does not hurt that he is hot. I am not sure he is a good enough actor but I would certainly like to give him a screen test ;)!

I really can not think of a male pro, other than Niels (and Eddie doesn't have an accent!) that is handsom enough to fill Newman's shoes....?

That's not a bad suggestion. he looks like he could pull off fast eddie. he'd have to look more down and out though. if you think a remake is a bad idea what about a prequal. like eddie on his way to meet fats

Ok....
Remake

sorvino=fatts
gordy=deniro
felson=.....dunno....dont laugh...ed norton...maybe even pitt.. guess i like the fight club
piper's role... hmm...scarlette johanson

what could the story be ?

Good call...... I am liking the prequel angle.....

oh how about this.. instead of Sorvino as Fatts... hows about Gandolfinni... that could work....

And as far as the advisors role..
huslter= moscconi
TCOM=Siegle
new movie=reyes

As much as I love him, I think there might be communication problems. Actually I think Tony Robles would be a great one, he is an excellent instructor for all levels and would do great as a consultant.

As far as prequels or sequels the former was done, that is what COM is and a prequel, would not have Fats or Sarah...since this is just an exercise I say you stick the original story!

I am going to say Daniel Craig in the George C Scott roll, I think he would add a nice edge to it...and he can do a scary southern drawl...
and as Sarah, I like Maria Bello. Sarah is suppose to have been around the block a few times and a little worse for wear. Scarlette only knows how to pout and looks like she hasn't even been to the corner yet!

wow man i have to disagree with you on that one bro. Sarah was a very important character in the movie. i hate to admit it being a devout pool fan but the hustler was more about love and self discovery than about pool. she opened eddies eyes to being more than a loser. she was very underrated

How about these choices for a remake?

James Gandolfini as Fats

Brad Pitt or Edward Norton as Fast Eddie

Morgan Freeman as Charlie Burns

Alec Baldwin as Bert Gordon

Scarlett Johansson as Sarah

not to get off topic but i think they missed a good oprotunity to show eddie shootin around when they got to the kentucky derby and eddie left sarah and bert to go with them

Leo

I think Deniro's too old; but Leonardo DiCaprio would make an interesting Fast Eddie, and for a girlfriend, let's go with Reese Witherspoon - not the sweetheart Reese from Legally Blond, the raunchy Reese from Freeway, one of my favorite flicks.

Do you realize Brad Pitt is 21 years older than Scarlett? IE: Old enough to be her father..!

He is too old to play Eddie and she is too young to play Sarah.

I do like the choice of Ed Norton...

And just a note about the original performance by Piper Laurie, she was
nominated for an Oscar, she later won for best supporting actress for her performance as the Mother in Carrie.

Naomi Watts would be another better choice.

I was thinking of Reese as well, I just watched Freeway the other night she can really pull off a tough little cookie and I think that is a great call on Leanardo!

Hmmm,Good topic!!
Casting for a movie definitely requires some vision.
I am no casting expert,but my vote would be to see Jack Black as Fats and Tim Roth as Eddie.
I know Jack seems ridiculous,but I think he could pull off a serious role like that if given the chance.Tim Roth is probably the best actor in Hollywood,but highly underrated.Alternate choice's for Eddie would be Steve Buscemi,Matt Damon,or Ashton Kutcher.
I would definitely be more concerned about who directed it than acted in it though.JMO

no way man. leo's acting is good but i don't see him pulling off eddie felson. he's too boyish even now. and too skinny i think paul newman was slightly more muscular ya know

Gandolfini is perfect!!! I like Dustin Hoffman as Burt.Scarlett isn't a good choice.WAY too pretty and naive to play the role of an "around the block" girl
