Moving an 8 foot table....alone

What would I need to disassemble, move and transport an 8 foot table (steps included) alone?

Thanks,

Lou

If it is slate, a fork lift...

Seriously, if that top is slate, even a three pc, you want a buddy or two to help. Trying it by yourself would either kill your back or risk damaging the slate.

The rest of it will come apart in nice pieces, but the slate will be the heaviest.

If you have to go down stairs, find help. I've moved one by myself (3 piece slate) and it wasn't any picnic. It is however a lot easier geting the slate back on the frame rather than off of it by yourself. Rent a heavy duty dolly whether you have help or not. Like they said above. Get help and don't chance the slate! Learn from my ignorance. Please. Good luck.

Depending upon the layout and the table style, it's easy to move one solo.
There are very few that I'm not 100% confident on doing alone.
IF you can carry at least a couple of hundred pounds, for a good distance while being careful of your surroundings, there is the hardest part of the job.
Provided it's a three piece slate.
One piece, need a hand usually, and some dollys, just to protect things a bit more.
How many stairs, how many turns, width, height of staircase, are all part of the factors needed to provide an accurate description.
But, to be honest, if you are here asking how to do it alone..... you need to bring some extra hands and backs.
It'll be cheaper in the long run for you, and if you haven't done it to get the techniques down for carrying it, your back will thank you also.
Other than that, disassemble it as far as you are able to, and make a few trips.;)

I am more interested in how to deal with the stairs. I was wondering if a handtruck using wood and good straps is worth trying for goin up 3 flights of stairs. Or should I have the back brigade ready?

I would not even come close to considering moving my gold crown 4 alone, not even an 8 foot slate table... Whew!!! Get yourself some help ;)

A Donkey Would be Great. You Could Tie The Slate to his Back and Let Him Walk it right down Stairs:thumbup:

On a Serious note, I had my helper flake on me this weekend and had to pull an 8 footer downstaris myself. Glad is was a 3/4in non-Backed slate and not a 1in backed slate.

I got a Refridge dolly and strapped each slate down 1 at a time and took it down the stairs. At this house the stairs were pretty wide, so I left all the paint on the wall.

I had to take the whole pool table apart.
It Took a couple of hours.

Next time a Helper Flakes, There are alot of People Standing Out Front of Home Depot Looking For Work.:sorry:

Up 3 Flights of Stairs?

I remember seeing a dolly at the BCA Show a couple of years ago made just for this occasion.

I am definately going to be looking for it this year.

I am thinkin if you don't have a couple of friends to give you hand gettin the table down stairs, you prolly don't need a table just to play solitare (sp) . Jus kiddin, Get some help

Well you could move tables like OTLB, this should liven up the room for the weekend.
