Moving from Predator Vantage 12.9 to Revo 12.9, 12.4 or even an 11.8. What to expect?

Been playing with a regular wood shaft (12.5) for more than two decades, I picked up the Predator Vantage (12.9) two months ago. Thinking about getting a Revo 12.9, 12.4 or even an 11.8. What to expect?

I went from a vantage to a Revo. About two week learning curve. I also use a Techno Dud tip. I suggest that you don’t change a thing for six months. I Don’t plan on changing tip or shaft in the future. Very happy with the Revo.

I found the Revo to be a stiffer shaft, but the hit felt the same as wood. The adjustment period for me was maybe a few hours. Almost a year not one ding in any of my Revo Shafts with wood i got them all the time. Gloves are not required for Revo shafts they are very smooth. Unless you are using a very hard tip no pinging sounds when you hit the ball. The only thing i don't like about the shaft is i can hear the shaft sliding through my hands, but I've gotten use to that. Really no negatives

just went from a 13mm regular deflection to a Revo 12.4. I only tested it before I bought it for an hour or so so not sure yet but I liked it a lot, even the smaller diameter. Picking it up tomorrow from a technician where I took it to fit my butt joint. I don't see why people think this shaft has a ding when it hits, I couldn't say it is that pronounced and feels fine. This one has a HOW med tip which I will keep for now.

Curious what your tech is doing? Was it just a pin diameter they don't offer or something else?

My one issue with carbon shaft is not being able to get the joint diameter exactly right....really wish Predator or someone would offer a good one with the first 1" or so at the joint being wood so things like custom rings, custom joint diameters, etc could be done.

There should have been a huge aiming adjustment between the regular shaft you used for 20 years and the Predator Vantage. Now, going from that to the Revo should be about the same.

generally expect no matter what cue, shaft, tip, you change to after you get used to it you will play the same as before.

the miracle thing to get better or improve as they say is practice, that is constructive.

Expect to be disappointed by the sound of a shaft that has no soul. Wood is the way.

I live in the UK and the most popular joints here are Radial and UniLoc since Predator is probably the most popular cue brand. I have an old Falcon (1990-1991 make) that has a 5/16 x 14 piloted joint. I gave up waiting for a second hand shaft to come in this joint as it is very unpopular here. So I just talked to a technician and he said it's quite easy to change the shaft insert to fit the pin of the butt. So I bought Radial and was changed to fit my pin, fits really well and I like it a lot. The Revo is maybe a fraction wider at the joint but it is extremely small difference and doesn't bother me at all.

Did the same with my Radial joint as the 5/16x14 pin was unavailable for the Vantage shaft

Gotcha, yeah, my cue is 5/16x14 too and my Revo is slightly larger at the joint than my butt as well. I'm trying to not let it bug me, haha.
