If there has been any talk here about Ms. Miyuki I've missed it. Wayne Catledge came in to Planet 9-Ball with this young Japanese player and I got to watch her play for a couple of hours (race to 5,sets). She was playing pretty well and is attempting to get on the WPBA Tour. I believe that she's preparing for a 'qualifier'. Does anyone have more information on her ?

Really not much story to tell. Japanese nine ball player Miyuki Sakai is the latest of the Asian pool players to move to the US to try to get on the WPBA tour full time. Two years ago, the one making that commitment was Ga Young Kim, and, obviously, things are developing rather well for the reigning World Champion. Speaking for myself, I'd like to see more of the top Asians come to the US to take their shot. Two that come to mind, and I'm sure I'll botch these names, are Zhou Meng Meng and Angela Pang.

Yes, I remember Ga Young Kim. Two years ago I was the TD for a 'qualifier' at Planet 9-Ball that Ms. Kim played in. I believe that young Anna Kostanian (sp) flew in from New Mexico and snapped that one off.... This was my first sighting of Ms. Miyuki and she handled herself very well. Good luck to her.

I could be wrong, but hasn't she already been over to compete?

Wow, Landshark, not to my recollection. Still I can't say I follow every single WPBA regional tour. On what regional tour do you believe she competed? I'm almost certain she hasn't played in a WPBA event.

... Angela Pan (Pan Xiao-Ting) Angela Pan is her westernized name, is not ready yet for western play. Zhou Meng-Meng is 15 years old and I doubt you will see her in the US until she is at least 18-21.

Thanks, Gremlin, for the info, and, wow, what a great picture.

I am not sure, I was just thinking her name was familiar. No, I don't recall it being in a WPBA event, but I was thinking that I saw her name in something that was in the US...either a regional or another tour. I am most likey wrong...but her name is familiar, and I don't really follow the scene in Asia, so I dunno :o .....

*EDIT: Well I guess Gremlin cleared it up and I am wrong (not the first time...and not the last.) Thanx Gremlin. ;)

Landshark, you can always go to the home page of the site and enter a name into the box on the right side that says 'Search Archive'. That will get you all the stories that we have ever ran that include that players name. There are quite a few in 2004 for Miyuki.

SJM,

She's played in a couple of my events last year - one of my NJ State events and came in fifth in the NY State event, winning the US Open Qualifier in the process.

She just won the JPNEWT opener and the Q for the Great Lakes Classic at Comet Billiards.

Barbara, it sounds to me like you're refering to Myuki. My reply to Landshark pertained to the matter of whether Angela Pan has competed in the United States, and I really don't believe she has.

By the way, though I post anonymously, I've met you numerous times and admire you for everything you do for women's pool.

I was wondering if I knew you! Now you're killing me by remaining anonymous!

And thanks for the compliment. I really try.
