Mucci Original Gold Lock & Key Cue

I have a Mucci Original Burels Eye Maple God Key or Lock And Key cue that I would like to get an Idea of it's worth. I have never seen another one but they are out there. I was told by Mucci that they stopped making them in 1979. This is not the "copy" they did in the '90s but an Originals cue. Thanks in advance to any replies. Art

That sounds pretty cool - do you have pictures? If you can't figure out how to post them (it's a challenge here) I can try to help. There's a dedicated Facebook page to Meucci Cues that also might be of help.

I'm not sure how to value the Original. The 90's version I'd guess $300-450?

There are Meucci collectors out there that might pay more for an Original in good shape.

Three things of note to any collector help determine value: Demand ( how many collectors are seeking that cue); Rarity ( how many of those cues normally come up for sale); and Condition.

I think that the cue as you own is not at all very common- so you have rarity on your side. Demand for THAT cue is probably not that high- but since it is rare- all you need is a few collectors bidding against each other to raise the price to its current market high; and only you know the condition of your cue right now since we can't see it.

Factor all of that in with a $300 starting bid in an auction setting and you will find out in a short period what the demand is for THAT Meucci cue. If it is a mint condition or vey close- raise the opening bid by $100.

Google is a wonderful thing. The "original" lock and key was made into the 80s, (mid-late).

I had the MS4G (this was the Mike Sigel line), a lock and key variant, refinished by Treadway with two shafts. I had a big Meucci collector make me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Value depends on a variety of factors, like anything else.

My best Meucci was a St Louie Louie, owned by a guy who Louie gave it too. Same collector bought it. :) (I'm more of a hunter, than collector. The thrill is in the find and the buy...then I pass them on and hunt some more)

Put it on ebay, with good photos and detailed description. Start an auction at 0.99 and you'll get what it's worth. I've done it a million times. Often a better technique than pricing some sky high and then people just get annoyed seeing it listed. Auctions can sometimes stir up MORE demand you get a better price.

Thank you Justice. I had pictures on another computer but it crashed. Need to do them again. Thanks for the advice.

Mine looks like the MS-4S shown in the picture you posted but is gold inlay. I did try to sell it 15 years ago with pictures on Ebay and had a "hidden" (Forgot what Ebay calls it) of $1,000.00 dollars. Over 800 people looked at it but no bids. Just wrong time to sell and wrong lookers. People on Ebay want to buy something worth much but pay almost nothing for it. I was told by a friend to take it to a pro turnament as maybe a pro might by it. Although I can't go to them cost wise just to see if it sells. Oh well. I don't play pool with it as I have an Adams so it sits in a closet and has for many years. When I die my Aires will probably pawn it for 50 bucks. Oh well!

Thanks Mike. You are correct in your advice. Mucci only made this cue for a short time and stopped in 1979. The Silver Key sold for $500.00 with two shafts and the Gold for $750.00 with two shafts. I have two shafts. That was a lot of money back in 1979 so not that many sold. I did call Mucci in '92 and an older guy who had knowledge about them told me the Silver Key is Rare. The Gold Key is Super Rare! If I couldn't get a grand for it to keep it! Unfortunately it has one fixable flaw. One of the butt key holes has less then one quarter inch of gold inlay at its bottom scratched off. BUT is fixable as can be re-plated. Other then that it is very good condition. Thanks again for your input.

Mucci Originals Gold Lock and Key

I took some pictures of my cue and hope I can figure out how to add them here. The very small scratch on the butt key lower part is only about an eighth of an inch. Re-Plateable.
Is a very nice cue I don't use it as have an Adams. Some wanted to see pictures so here goes! Art
