Alright, my wife and I picked Matt up at Mishima station around 5:00pm this evening. We proceeded to go to a ramen shop and have dinner and then over to the pool hall.
We started playing at 6:25pm and finished around 1:45am. I personally had a really good time. Matt is just about 10 years younger than I am but I think we got along fairly well.
We started off with 8-ball. Matt says that's what he plays in his league. I usually shoot 14.1 and a little 9-ball every now and then. I haven't played 8-ball in over 10 years easily. At first I wasn't really thrilled about 8-ball, because I didn't like it much way back when, but then I started seeing similarities to straight pool and really started getting into it. I actually enjoyed playing 8-ball tonight and when Matt comes back to Japan I'll be looking forward to playing it again.
Ok we played 5 sets of 8-ball racing to 5. Score tally goes
MULLY-MATT
5 4
5 1

5 2
5 3
Then we moved over to 9-ball. 2 races to 5.

I know it looks like he didn't do too well but to be honest, Matt is a pretty straight shooter. I didn't tell him this but I was really impressed with his long straight in shots. He fired them bad boys in like it was nothing. I don't know why but I was having serious problems with side pocket shots. It was pitiful. It was so bad that we were actually making jokes about it. He hardly missed any side pocket shots, regardless of the angle he had, but when he did miss I told him that "imitation is the highest form of flattery". We got a good laugh out of that...........I guess you had to be there. But yeah, I'd venture to guess that I missed more than 80% of the side pocket shots I tried.
I told him that I wasn't going to report this but I gotta be honest, we played 3 games of one pocket. The first game he got me good 8-0. I missed one safety and he ran 8 and out. I was impressed with that because there was a cluster or 2 he had to take care of to get out and he got through it really well. Second game he got me again 8-4. Last game I won 8-4, I think that's what the final score was. I won that last game but to be totally honest he had 2 very unfortunate scratches that gave it to me. Had it not been for those scratches he probably would have taken that last one too.
Overall it was really fun hanging out with Matt tonight. Matt, like I said when we dropped you off at the hotel, next time you're over here you gotta come down to Shizuoka and camp out at out place for the weekend. By that time we'll be moved into the new house and there will be plenty of room for you stay. We won't have to concern ourselves with finishing up early enough for me to make a 2 hour drive home either.
Thanks for everything, man. I had a good time.

I offered to let him use my jump cue:thumbup:
