music and pool

i have the headphones on when i'm practicing or running drills and usually when i'm getting ready for tournaments. chill electronica while i'm warming up and then heavier stuff like hatebreed or throwdown when i'm getting ready for a league match or tournament always gets me amped up.

...

I've been known to torture people with The Three Degrees, The Pet Shop Boys Sing Willie Nelson's Greatest Hits, and Bob Dylan's Christmas carols, but only when I'm in a bad mood or losing.

I had no idea you were so vindictive, sir!

What kind of musak?

One theory is that instrumental music is fine, but that music with lyrics tends to negatively affect concentration, in any task; as does conversation.

Worth considering...

Just to throw my opinion out there... I see it as two different ways. If you still pay attention to your opponent then its okay. But there are those players who get so in to it that they don't even pay attention to what is going on. Those are the players that get to me. I do on occasion have my ipod on me and listen to music while practicing or playing but I pay attention to most aspects of what is going on. If you are being respectful and paying attention then it is fine is how I see it. I agree with alot of you who say the sound of balls sounds better but some times music helps. But being in a pool hall that switches out music so much.. Gets annoying. But hey thats just my opinion.

Is there any people here who love to listen to music while shooting pool. I carry my mp3 player with me and listen through my earphones whilke playing. Now in leagues I don't because just incase someone tells me to play a safe or gives me some advice when playing. Shootin by myself and in tourneys I'll play my mp3 player. Something fast and grim always suits my fancy.

Suits my taste too. I recently discovered an old one that I think everyone overlooks because they don't know the title. It's ,"Twilight Zone," by the Golden Earrings. You would probably recognize it by one of the lines ," When the bullet hits the bone."

The pool hall has a juke box you can use personal playlists on. See http://MyTouchTunes.com. I got compliments last night on my Metalica and RHCP selections.

Now here's a man who knows his music.
A little Ray Coniff Singers thrown into that mix wouldn't be bad, eh Bob? :)

Music and Pool

I like to listen to MY music when I practice at home. I have this system from the 1970s that was top of the line for the day. This thing has a sound that is very full and musical and I love it. It has the ability to blow the roof off the house if I am in the mood.
For the most part there isn't much juke box music that distracts me when I play. I did try MP3 players with ear buds but found that distracting and then with them was distracted by hearing everything around me. So, I believe you should be able to play with distraction for the most part.

Here's my MP3 player :D

I have a table at home and I never play in silence. I always turn on the sound and I think I play better with some good music......
