It's funny you say that. Because when I look at this cue and I look at my Szamboti. (as well as other period cues) I am amazed at how and what these guys accomplished what they did, with so little. I think it's a real testament to their techniques. You look at Palmers Paradises, this Bushka, they emplored plastics. At the time plastics were the new "in" material, now plastics are deemed cheap. Most of these guys had one lathe, a drill press and a table saw. Now its CNC this, cnc that and to top it off, companies give you predesigned points and inlays.
I keep hearing people say how much better the adhesives are today, well this cue ain't rattling. There are many others that aren't either. Don't get me wrong, I know in theory how much better the new glues are, but based on the application, maybe its a moot point. How many titlists today and OLDER butterfly cues are still getting converted? Heck, lots of them. How much better can a glue freaking be? 100 year old cues getting used today.
Anyways, it just reinforces what I already know and what my preferences are. You want CNC, there are plenty of guys and probably another 2-3 cuemakers come out of the closet on a monthly basis.
Give me points and veneers, give me tradition, give me slotted diamonds, give me veneered windows, steel and piloted ivory joints, stitch rings and ivory ferrules.
