I was tightening some bolts on the corner castings on my Valley the other day when I noticed a sticker that the table was put in a bar in Marietta, Ga when it came from the Valley factory.

It had came from the factory with a quarter slot on it. I wonder how old the table is? Maybe a young Johnny Ardher played on it back then.

I'm going to look for the serial # tomorrow and e-mail Valley for it's history. Johnnyt

A dime was what the bar boxes in NY bars started out with in the 50's. Johnnyt

Is it a single quarter slot? I have still seen bar tables for 25 cents per game in the last 5 years or so. These were used exclusively for 9 ball, as they only had 9 balls in the return, etc. But even most of these had 4 slots, and were just set to 1 quarter.

I don't know, could it have come out of a VFW or something? They don't always charge the common 75 cents or one dollar.

Chesterton, Indiana

Aaron's Mortgage Inn. 25cent pool for at least the last 22 years that I have lived here. The table makes more money than dollar tables because it is in action from noon to closing.

thats true. American Legions in Marion IN and Van Buren IN are 25 cents too, and there is always someone playing. another bar/grill place is 1.00 and ive only seen people play on it one time.

Dime

Haven't been there in 7 or 8 years but there was a dime table still in a bar / bait shop in Ft. Madison, IA. Beer and pool were cheap...if you didn't mind the smell of minnows and night crawlers.

The cheapest I've ever paid was 20 cents. It was in a small town bar somewhere in Nebraska in about 1968. That was actually the very first time I ever paid for a game. I grew up playing and learning in the Boy's Club in Omaha where the 9' Brunswick tables were free.

As I recall, I held the table for a dozen or so games...then I had to go back to the FFA Animal Judging Contest. I got second place that day.

I just played in a tournament and the tables were set at $1.25...that is outragous in my opinion.

Those coin slots can be changed. Might have come out of a VFW or a Legion club. Interesting either way. I love to play on bar box but will rarely just go out and play with anyone as it costs too much to pump in quarters when you can play a rack of 8 or 9 ball in a few minutes. Best bar box I liked was an old brunswick I played on in a Legion in NH. The pockets had a wood sounding drop when the ball went in. Nice old table... would love to have it.

The table is not as old as I thought. According to the serial # it was built in 1985. Valley is going to send me the history on it in a few days. It plays as good as it did new now. I have recovered it, new rails, and have Aramith Pro Balls. All the bolts and srcews have been tightened. I know I could have got a bigger and better table for what I put in it, but I love to play on an old Valley bar box. It doesn't look like much, buts its solid as a rock. Johnnyt

Yep... Valley... king of the bar tables always has been always will be in my opinion. Or I may just be getting old :D A lot seem to like these new diamond bar boxes... I have not had the opportunity to play on one yet.

Valley tables play like barboxes, which isn't a bad thing. Diamonds play like "big" tables. Make the effort to play on one, it's worth it!

cost

WELL GUYS,when i started playing ther were 9ft tables, and it cost dime a cue we shot rotation only. had a snooker table at .20 cue but playing on open table low man payed for all!!! as a young boy with 2bucks in your pocket, and 5-6 players in game , you had to sweat it!!!!! but i loved the compation!!! STICK:thumbup:

I play on tables that have 6 slots so you can set up the machine for anywhere from one to six quarters. We play $1.25 a game. Most other places in our area only charge $1. One place has a slot for quarters or dollars. On Tuesday it is set for fifty cents a game. Other times it is $1.

25 cent Pool

A couple weeks ago I went to a bar in SE Wisconsin that supposedly had 0.25 pool.

Well, it turns out that it certainly did.

However, the balls actually felt fuzzy because there was so much dirt on them.

The cloth seems like it had never been changed.

And to top it off, when down on a shot I noticed something pass through my field of vision -- it was water falling from the ceiling onto the table. I must admit though, that the two large water spots from the leaking ceiling really didn't turn out to affect the play of the table too much....LOL.

(You get what you pay for I guess)...

My old Valley

Here is a picture of my old Valley. I believe it has a nickle slot. I was told by Valley that it was from the 60's but I think it is older. I still have it, disassembled in the garage.

At our Moose lodge we have a quarter table. Unusual because the quarter goes in flat. I think it is pretty rare, the coin chute lasted so long.
