First off, i did not play in the event and only stopped in 1 nite (fri 30th). i was going to attend the full weekend but changed my mind.
the first thing i noticed was only a hand full of vendors were set up(had they left early ?) . i had hoped to see Chris Hightower and shake his hand, he has always be very polite and helpfull .
Then in the main lobby i saw a few familiar faces in ,J Archer, S Daulton , L Nevel , S Diep , and a few others. I say familiar but they would not know me if was sitting next to them.
then i went into the main room to watch the ( i think 6th rd) and saw E Reyes , F Bustamnte , S VB , and watched J Archer play on the tv table.
S Diep was standing next to my chair( dam she's cute) and i saw Fat Boy across on the other side , he was talkin to Samm on the cell phone.
After J Archer's match ( he won) i saw E Reyes standin i the lobby . i said hello and offered my hand , he shook but didnt seem to happy.
i then went upstairs to see where the az room was, almost gave up, and then saw it ( the az closet). there was a young boy and a man playing , didnt see anyone else.
I stopped by the TAR room ( thanks for the ppv feed .was great to see). it was to smokey to stay in ther long, so i stood outside were the t shirts where and watched for awhile, i moved the table for who i think was big nasty so he could get through , he went straight to the booth and sat down ( was a pretty big boy) and waited for rd 7 to start .I stayed up stairs on the TAR side to watch so i could see most of the matches , shane , francisco , won there match . couldnt tell about the others and i didnt know alot of them.
anyways , my only complaint was it stunk of stale beer ( carpet i assumed)
and the smoke was horrible. better venting is needed.have the always allowed smoking at the DCC ?
this was my first time at the DCC and wasnt sure what to expect. my 1 visit i will gave a 7 too. maybe next year i can get to see more , we didnt have power over in louisville where my brother lives most of the weekend.
thanks for reading.

At the last DCC, in Executive West, you had to step outside to smoke. The No Smoking law there is different. Although I don't generally get bothered by smoke unless it is extreme, it was a little nicer at E.W.... Some of the Vendors may have left early. If I had paid to set up a booth there, I think I may have been a little upset. I wandered out thru that area 3 times the first weekend, just to get a signal on my cell. I'm not really big on looking at cues and stuff, but at E.W. I would stop occasionally and check out something that caught my eye. So, I think their location was probably not a good one.

There was talk about using the Expo Center at Louisville a few years ago. But I really think it needs to be at a Hotel. Most of the people who attend, have at least a couple of beers, and an awful lot of them only want to walk upstairs, shower and nap a couple of hours during the week

Back in the 80's the APA held the nationals in Louisville at the Galt House Downtown. There was plenty of room and the prices were very reasonable. A friend sayed there this year for $58 a night and had a very nice room.

Don't know whether Gregg talked to them or not, but my wife and I had a great time there, then went to ChurchillDowns for a couple days of horseracing after........ that was the end of April.

Greg posted last year about talking to Galt House. If I remember right, the rates were gonna be like $144 a night plus $12 a night to park your car. That was supposedly our discounted rate. Maybe, just maybe, their business will be a little slow with the economy, and they'll make him a better deal for next year. I'm sure he'll make the best effort to do what's best for the tourney.

You're probably not going to believe this, but if there was one day and one night only that you were going to come by, Friday night was by far the least desirable.

For some reason, Friday night the action room (The TAR PIT) saw more players come in and start playing that weren't in the room all week. I figure it was the influx of 9-ball-only players that were recently knocked out of the 9-ball event and came upstairs. They didn't realize that the TAR PIT was non-smoking, although it wasn't enforced heavily. On Friday it got bad, so the TAR crew had to enforce the no-smoking policy. So, you saw it the one night it got bad.

Also, on the last Friday night, it is definitely a big wind down. People are tired at that point and until the finals of the 9-ball on Saturday, the whole place is just in slow motion. So, again, Friday night, not much action anywhere.

And of course, the vendors had been busy all week. Jack Justis sold most of his wares by day two or three! So, getting to the last couple of nights just isn't going to see a lot of traffic. Also, Chris Hightower doesn't go to the Derby City Classic, so I think you got your wires crossed with some other event like the Super Billiards Expo.

So, my suggestion is to come earlier and for longer. I'd hate for you to get your thoughts on the DCC based on coming on the on the slowest night of the event.

Isn't it wierd how hotel pricing works opposite of the rest of the world. In the real world, things get cheaper when you buy them in advance and buy a lot of them.

In the hotel world, if you arrange an event at their facility and arrange for hundreds of people to stay there...they charge a higher rate!

Jay Helfert reported in another thread that room rates at the DCC's hotel SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper the weeks before and after the event!

WTF is wrong with those people?!?!...is having hundreds of people in your hotel spending money an inconvenience to them?! hotel think: "it sure would be nice around here if there weren't so many people. GD them for staying here!
