This weekend I drove to NJ from middle of MA (3.5 hr one way drive) for the 10 Ball State Championship at Sandcastle.
Get there right after 10, bunch of practice time till 1. Tournament starts, loss in the first round, then 3 wins in a row on the losers side till fatigue sets in; then it's mostly a give up last set for the second loss at a bit after 9 pm.
I did not play a single set, I spent the time sitting in the room watching, and maybe playing a bit on a free table.
This kid played.
Yep, I drove 3.5 hours to enter my 14 yr old son in the tournament, I figure even if he goes 2 and out it's good experience for him as it will be his first major tournament outside the junior nationals. He proceded to win 3 matches, keeping me sitting in the room for over 10 hours LOL
Lost the 1st round, got a bye, then won 2 matches 7-5, 7-2. He was by far the youngest person there. Alex G.
