Top part of the jump/break cue butt fell through a hole inside of a pocket into a bar pool table. can't retrieve it by hand through the hole. any solutions?

It’s very easy to remove the trim around the rails. This exposes the nuts, that attach the cushions to the rails. After removing cushions, the slate lifts straight up.

Keep track of which cushion goes where. Two people can lift the slate. More is okay, but you must lift evenly, or slate will snap. The vendor, that owns the table, probably has someone on call, if you can’t get permission to do it.

Can you see it pocking up? Is the pin side up? Maybe can put the other part in there and try to screw it on and lift it out.

Valley's have three places where you can access the area under the slate. Most effective will be the keyed door underneath the table. That is a little less than a square foot in size, and you can get your head in there to look around. Have a small flashlight, and something that you can reach around with if you see the piece you're looking for. Another access panel is on the headstring side, near where the cue ball is returned. That is much smaller and unless you dropped something in those two corner pockets, won't really help. There is another panel behind that keyed door that needs to be removed to view the ball return system.

Your best bet is that bottom panel. Be prepared for there being dust and lots of chalk cubes in there.

Photos? I cant see how. How long is the piece?

No additional info from my side.

Stick your cell phone camera down in there to get a snap of the area. You can also buy a fiber optic camera that attaches to your cell phone with 15 feet of cord for about $20 on the Amazonian. (https://www.amazon.com/Inspection-F...41&sprefix=fiber+optic+camera,aps,119&sr=8-10)
I bought one, not this one but similar. (I use this all the time, you can see behind walls with a small access hole, down pipes, etc...)

Also, is there metal on the object? You could use a magnetic retriever tool.

Best of luck....

Removing the slate is very easy to retrieve your cue. It can be done in 20 minutes or less by yourself.

Slate removal:
1. Remove the small screws behind each of the rails
2. Once the screws are removed, the metal trim will come off exposing the rail bolts
3. Remove the rail bolts
4. Once the rail bolts are remove the rails will lift off
5. Once the rails are off, lift the slate up at one end and prop it up with a few blocks of wood so you can reach in and retrieve your cue.

I can't speak for all valley tables, but the one I had didn't have actual slate. It had a 1/2 inch thick steel plate. So accidentally breaking it was not a concern at all. I'm pretty sure this is the standard for all Valley's but I could be wrong.
