today has been a great day not only did i get my break cue, but within an hour of playing got my first 9 on the break...srry if you think this thread is useless i just needed to shout it from the roof tops..."I GOT A GOLDEN BREAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!":D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yea, making the 9 on the break is quite the spectacular one! Just some advice: Hit the 1-ball square in the face with a (or close to) half-tip of 12 o'clock follow, with some good stroke. Not only will you have some chances on having that nine moving, but your cueball will be stationary right in the middle of the table... locked, loaded, and ready to fire!

9ball break

Way to go wombat; old man stick here, if you stay that excited about the game , and watch and listen to some good advice, you will to far ,but you have to apply 110% to the game. good luck and god bless STICK

Making the nine in the break contest for $456 is awsome too.. I know ... I did it.. :D I hope you get to experience that one day. And many more 9's on the break.. Just yell... GO TO YOUR HOME JUDY!!!!! :D :D

Since this was brought up, I have to add my 2 cents.

I don't play pool as many of you know. But many years ago Bludworth made me a cue and signed it to me.

I decided to play some with Bob (my husband for thoses who don't know this either..lol) and he let me break (as he always does).

Low and behold, SNAP! the 9 goes right into the pocket! it's a hellofa cue, and one of my proudest moments in billiard history!

So, with that said, Congratulations Silver Wombat! Job well done!

Nice! I saw a guy win an amount close to that just a few weeks ago.

That's the first time I heard using follow to park a cue ball in the middle of the table. From my experience, and everything I've read, you should use at least half-tip bottom english. Applying follow will force the cueball to slam into the rest of the rack and only God knows where it'll end up.

SILVER_WOMBAT, may I give some advice, find a book on breaking 9-ball and practice, practice, practice. Learn to control the cueball first, speed second. I promise your game will blossom. Soon you'll learn there is more to a good break than snapping the 9 (e.g. leaving shape on the one).
Good Hittin',

Yea, unless you're gonna hop the damn CB or something, then you put a tip of low. But if you hit straight on the 1 with even a tip of low, then you're sending the CB straight back at ya-- which sometimes can work... sometimes it won't. If you use a little bit if high English when breaking, then what you're doing is when you stroke the CB in high velocity, you're bringing the cueball back and with that small amount of high, you're stopping the CB right center of the table. And putting the CB right in the center of the table is very ideal when getting position for the next ball.
