My first cue! A Carolina Custom

I got this cue a couple of weeks ago in the mail and had a few changes made to it, and now I'm in love with it. Its 4 point, 4 veneer cue with a lot of ivory, ebony, curly maple. I love the veneers on the cue they really pop in person, from outside in they are black, purple, blue, and natural. Its a flat faced wood to wood 3/8 X 10 pin with a steel sleeve, two great shafts at 12.75mm between 3.6 and 4.0 oz, everest tips (my second layered tip, first was a talisman medium), rings at all positions, dead even points and matching joint protectors. Balance point is 19.5' to 20.5" from the butt end of the cue. Very elegant player. For anybody looking to buy a cue, these guys do good work, highly recommended. I could go on and on about it, but you guys can see for yourselves. Sorry about the glare and light. Its hard to see the colors of the veneers and I tried minimize the glare from the flash, but not perfect. IMG_0029.JPG

I initially got it with white linen wrap with black specs... So I had that changed to leather wrap. I also had the joint protectors made. The weight was also adjusted so that it weighs between 19 and 19.5 oz. All of this was done by the Carolina shop... In the future maybe to increase the value of the cue I might have the butt cap and ferrules changed to ivory as well. Also maybe change the joint to an ivory joint or ivory sleeved, but I don't think that can be done very easily once the cue has already been made. I hit a rack or two and I do love how the steel sleeved joint hits though. In the past Ive hit with a flat faced wood to wood 3/8 X 10 joint and a 5/16 X 14 steel joint and this provides an in between hit. I saw your ivory jointed hoppe carolina, very nice as well, I must say I'm a fan of that one.

IF YOU LIKE THE WAY IT PLAYS WITH THE STEEL JOINT, DON'T MESS WITH IT. IVORY AND STEEL HAVE A TOTALLY DIFFERENT FEEL.

IT'S NOT A HUGE JOB TO CHANGE IT THOUGH.

IF YOU HAVE THE CUE TO USE, AND NOT SIT IN A DISPLAY, DON'T PUT IVORY ON AS THE BUTTCAP. THAT TURNS INTO BAD NEWS FAST ON A PLAYERS CUE.

P.S. I'M VERY SURPRISED MY HOPPE DOESN'T HAVE A NEW HOME YET.

ME too!!! honestly I love that cue, and had I not bought this one, I would definitely want to pull the trigger to buy yours. It looks fabulous. I also saw another hoppe carolina cue on sale here that made of cocobolo for about the same resale price, but that ones used, has an issue with the finish, and not perfect. The market is terrible right now it seems I guess, nobody wants to spend money on a top notch item. You said something about another Carolina you ordered thats anything but simple? Care to share about that one?

IT'S HIGHLY FIGURED COCOBOLA

Haha, I honestly don't know... I've seen that kind of design on many of the older traditional style cues, so it could be attributed to any one of those.

HERE'S MORE OF A PEEK SINCE I'VE HI-JACKED YOUR THREAD......

Ohhh man I finally took my cue to the local pool hall, and it turned quite a few heads. Boy am I sure glad I can throw away that $40 Minnesota Fats cue.
