My first DCC trip this year

Louisville in general is a dumpster fire!
Unfortunately Louisville has been on a steady decline for quite a while now. It's a shame. Downtown is the worst and it has been spreading outward and unchecked. Anyone staying in Louisville please be mindful of your surroundings. I drove a semi-truck for an LTL company for 17+ years in that area and I do not miss it one bit.

Regarding the Fort Knox Gold Depository, it is impressive, and the security around it is pretty amazing. You can see the facility from Hwy 31W that runs beside it, and it is my understanding that they can see you as well!! The road barriers near the facility are some serious heavy duty vehicle stopping devices.

I've been going to Louisville for a few years for a bourbon and music festival in September. Meet up with friends from around the country and a local college friend who has a law practice there. It's definitely got some bad areas but we've had no problems downtown. There are some decent restaurants and you could always do a bourbon tasting or visit the Louisville Slugger factory or Muhammed Ali museum. I usually stop in at Railyards to hit some balls while I'm in town. 2022 was nice because when I got there Gorst was playing Biado, watched a bunch of that.

It turns out I have a work trip in Louisville on the 19tth. Coincides very nicely with DCC, I am going to take some time off and take a day or two to see things there. Do they allow table rentals for after the matches are over or do most players head to Railyard or someplace to shoot with their buddies? Who will be there? Feel free send me a message if you want to meet up and say Hi.

Looks like all the table seats are sold out, bleah.
It was a bit of a running joke my first several years at the Derby from 2000-2005 that work took me to Louisville coincidentally during DCC. One year I had already bought my plane tickets, and couple of days before I was to go to Louisville, my VP asked if I could go to … Louisville on an escalation.

Aside from Covid-related absences, I’ve gone every year since 2000 except two years ago. I had another trip the week prior and decided to forgo the DCC. This year, I already had all my tickets lined up… and once again work is sending me to Kentucky, this time closer to Cincy. So after my meetings, I’ll drive to Louisville, DCC it, and then off to another work related trip on the 27th.

So, long and short, if you’re still around the final weekend, I’ll see you.

I may only be there for half of one day, on the 22nd. I looked at the schedule and the 9 ball does not start till the 22nd. I have no real interest in the banks or one pocket matches. I am flying out on the 23rd.
My first time at the DCC, I also only had pretty much half a “day.” I walked in, and among other matches, I watched Scott Frost and Monster John matched up in one pocket, with John getting the hit and pick. I wasn’t a one pocket person, but that’s what hooked me, and I vowed to make it to every DCC from there on out.

Plus forgot about Goldfinger being a pool-related movie.

Perhaps the only one with a 'trick pool table' as the gangsters call it when Goldfinger's table starts to flip round.

Big table. Pockets look very tight. Proper old school.

I have noticed the area is not that nice. Not what I expected. Had an inner city feel to it, especially the area from the airport heading to Railyard pool hall. I had a pretty basic Chevy sedan as a rental, and I was one of the nicest cars on the road LOL. Not sure why, but there are a lot of cars missing all or most of the front end there.

If you've never been to Louisville before then a couple of things to try and see are:

Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky Derby horse race):
Churchill Downs, 700 Central Ave, Louisville, KY 40208

Fort Knox:
United States Bullion Depository, 397 Redmar Blvd, Fort Knox, KY 40121

Churchill Downs is strange - it's just south of downtown and the area around it is not that glamourous at all. There's a Barbaro (famous horse) statue outside where you can get your pic taken. Been there. Done it kinda thing.

Fort Knox - we all say stuff like 'man - that's like trying to get into Fort Knox'. How many people really know where it is - or have actually seen it?
It's a bit out of town but if you have a car - easy to get to.

This is my 3rd drip to the area, I was there for New Year week and a bit before that. Went to the racetrack, and I may head to Fort Knox in a couple of weeks since I am coming back for our store opening. Visited a couple of distilleries and planning on going to one more, I try to find some local exclusives to take back home.

Food there is below standard and or pricy. Do yourself a favor and bring a cooler with snacks and refreshments. Something like you take on a fishing trip. Cheese, crackers, fruit, beer, salami, etc. And plenty of it.

The casino/hotel in general has poor food? A decent restaurant on the higher price side I don't mind, work is footing $50 of meals for me.

If you have a car, The Exchange Pub & Kitchen. It's 15 minutes up River Road if you don't have to wait for a coal train.

There is a Gordon Ramsay at the Horseshoe as a "decent restaurant on the higher price side" but reservations may be a problem. Here are the signature dishes -- sides are $14 each...

How's the Rustic Frog these days? Still the best burger in town?
Well, the Maps reviews have complaints about the quality of the lap dances. They list it as about $100, but that's probably not for food. It is close to the casino.

Well seem a bit steep for most Pool Players.
