My first league night

I first started playing when my father got a table for our home when I was about 8 years old. I'm kind of sad to say that's almost 40 years ago.

While I played in a few tournaments over the years, I have not played competitively in well over 15, and maybe more like 20 years.

Something got into me (midlife crisis maybe) where I finally decided to buy a table for my home a few weeks ago (my first in my adult life) and join a local league.

I'm absolutely thrilled with the used Diamond Pro I found, and my new in home pool room. Tonight was my first night in the local 8 ball league. Even if I do say so myself, I must say I did alright!

I won 4 of 5 matches, and the one I lost I rattled the 8 ball and left my opponent an easy 3 ball run to win. I had the top point total of both teams in our match by more than a good margin. It was great fun!

What tonight showed me is how much I missed the competition and how much fun this game really is. I think I'll keep doing this for a little while.

Thanks for enjoying this little life highlight with me.

PRGeno,

Glad to hear you had a good experience on your first night in league play. I know some people who came away from their first league experience with a bad taste in their mouth. But I won't go there as I want to keep this post positive. What kind of a league are you in (i.e. APA, BCA, TAP, etc.)? I am in my third session of APA 8-ball and second in APA 9-ball. I enjoy it for the most part and eagerly await Monday and Thursday nights so I can get back to it. I think I would enjoy it a lot more if my wife (she is on the 8-ball team) wasn't so affected by all the cigarette smoke and she didn't have to get up so early in the morning to go to work (I'm retired). We have to drive to another town to play and the matches don't usually end 'til around 11:00 p.m. I've been shooting pretty good lately and I have finally moved up to a skill level 5 (yes, I'm not going to impress anyone here with my prowess at the table :D ). It sounds like you shook off the rust reasonably quick and had an excellent first night of shooting. Congratulations!!!

Thanks for the encouragement Maniac.

This Thursday night league is ACS/BCA and set up for having fun. There are some very good players, but it isn't the most serious league at this room. The Wednesday night league is the super serious one, and maybe after I get my feet wet a little at this level, I might some day feel I'm competitve enough to move to Wednesdays. But at this point in my life, I'm all about having fun (of course I find getting the competitive juices flowing a lot of fun).

I understand what your wife has to deal with as I too have a tough time with too much smoke. I also need to get up fairly early the next day and feel pretty slugish after a night of breathing second hand smoke.

But I forgot just how much I love this game, and it's going to be well worth it to get back at it.
