My First Tad

I have been interested in TAD cues since the late John Wright sent me photographs when I first got into cues. I knew I had to own one day and the timing was right when I located a late 70s early 80s cue that caught my attention. At first I was hesitant to buy it since the Tad logo was not on the butt cap but the cue was authenticated by Fred Kahora and at the sametime I figured I would get it cleaned up, rewrapped and a new shaft made since it only had one original shaft.

The cue is 57" long and has a fatter butt compared to the cues of today, but damn does it have a solid hit with the white material (no clue what it is) and old acme pin. Really happy to add this one to the collection. Sorry in advance for the crappy pictures.

Nice pickup

One thing good about those old Tads, even without a logo, his work is so identifiable that it really doesn't need a logo.

Nice pickup. I did find your description interesting. I have had a few Tad cues, one played incredible, and one was very pretty... But both had very narrow handles. Your description noted that that it was thicker. So my question is, is the handle more like the common size today, or even thicker than that?

Nice cue, I wish you the best of rolls,

Ken

Ken,

Maybe it is just me. Most of my other cues have a leather or lizard wrap so maybe that had something to do with the feel. I was taking out my calipers to take some measurements, but the battery was dead. I will get to it in some time and compare to some of my other cues. Either way, I am digging the cue and happy to add it to my collection. I was always a fan of cues that could be spotted down the room just by their unique style. This one as you said screams out TAD even without the logo.

I had a similar one like yours that was completely refurbished by Fred Kohara. Funny how the silver rings and stitch are the same but swapped in position.

Don't worry about the no TAD logo, IMO, they are more desirable than the ones with. This one also did not have the TAD logo.

Congrats and enjoy.

Way cool TAD. An early flat faced big pin TAD (if the joint is original),

Joint is Big Pin 3/8-12 all original. I can see why TAD cues make a big statement. Really enjoy playing with this cue.

Thanks to all for the comments... Happy owner. Might be looking for another TAD soon enough.
