Okay posters, this is basically what my practice routine is nowadays. just wondering what everyone's thoughts might be.

1) Work with Stroke Groover. Stroke with no balls and then shoot some balls down the table. Hoping for some muscle memory here

2) Mother Drills. Shoot CB downtable, trying to return to tip. Shoot speed control drill (1,2,3,4,5,6). Pile some rocks, focusing on a consistent routine. Watch out for too much eye movement. At times I will use the pocket reducers to make pocketing shots much more difficult

3) Shoot the six (6) routine shots that seem to come up for me. Focus on speed and use other balls to tighten up landing zone. These are all on the Bert Kinister 60 minute 8/9 Ball workout tape from '94.

4) Shoot the eight (8) speed control shots I have diagrammed. Focus on nothing but speed control. One, two, and Three rail shots here using other object balls to tighten up landing zone.

5) Shoot a handful of other shots I have diagrammed in my book. These are shots I have struggled with over the years. Again, focus on speed and use other balls to tighten landing zone.

This is basically what I am doing at this point. Anybody have some constructive comments?

Sounds like your very dedicated to getting better. Only thing I would say is watch you don't burn yourself out by always shooting drills. All this detailed practice is all well and good but you also have to be able to play other people as well so you can adapt to different table conditions and situations that wont come up in your set practice regimen.

Read my recent post on the Age Old Drill, about shooting the CB downtable and having it return to hit your tip. i think i am going to practice this in Part #2 of the practice routine and use the draw stroke, hitting the CB at 6:00 on this. i always struggle with this, probably because i wobble to the left after i shoot and the harder i shoot the worse it gets.

Sounds like you are headed down the right path. My only question would be, after you hit the ball, are you finishing with your arm and hand in the same position every time (I'm refering to the follow through afer you hit the ball)? Your stroke has to be repeatable for you to be consistent, no matter what shot you are trying (be it lagging the ball, or making an object ball it makes no difference).

Drills

I have two drills I think are excellent. First is backward pool, sometimes called Polish pool. Please don't be offended now my Polish friends, most poolplayers are pretty thick skinned thank goodness. Real simple rules. Break with cue and play 8 ball as you normally would but after breaking and choosing balls, shoot object balls into cue ball. You know backwards of what you normally do. Its called a carom shot I believe. Its also like scratching on purpose. What a great way to learn what a scratch shot is. And how many times do you already use this shot when trying to cheesse the nine? Great drill for cheesers. We used to do this in bars just to get lots of play time on a pay table, games can drag quite a while. Its a great way to meet people also. What the hell are you guys playing?? My other drill is take all 15 balls and make huge circle in middle of table, all balls clear to go. Take cue in hand and run all 15 BUT never take cue ball to a rail. Anyone will make 10 or 12 but then it gets tough. This drill will also teach you how to throw balls,(big huge secret to this game). Lots of moving the cue in small places.
