My lesson with Lee Brett

Took a lesson with Lee Brett on 6/29/14 and wanted to post my results.

At the beginning of the 4 hour lesson, Lee took a while watching me shoot a few racks and drills and recorded the strengths and weaknesses with my fundamentals. We then tackled each area individually. Lee corrected my speed and distance around the table, my stance, sighting, preshot routine, and warm up strokes. He gave me a whole new way to approach the table based on the distance to the cueball and the line of the shot. After the lesson, I felt a renewed sense of excitement for the game.

The very next day, I played a match in my local TAP 8 ball league. I am a skill level 6, and had to play a 7 in a 5-4 race. The guy I played is by far the best and most dominant player in the league. I have played this guy at least 5 times previously and just could not win.

During the match, I felt very confident with my new preshot routine and approach. I did everything Lee taught me, and I won the match easily, with a final score of 4-2. After the match, everyone commented on how solid and confident I looked.

I want to give a big thanks to Lee Brett and I can't wait until he is back in my area so I can go over my game with him again and continue to improve. If anyone is on the fence or considering scheduling a lesson, DO IT!

Thanks for reading!

Awesome, thanks for the review! I think he's going to be in my area next week and, if it works out timing wise, I'm going do a quick one with him. I'm still a beginner but I could really use some guidance with my approach and setup right now, sounds like it would be well worth it if it works out.

I enjoy Lee and he is a good player/instructor.

However, I don't think you can judge one race to 4 on how you play. Go play the same guy 5 more times = to the losses you are talking about, and then report back.

There are way too many variables in pool to say that one night changes everything.

I'd like to hear back from you in a month to see how you are doing, and the progress you've made.

GL to you.

Congrats, All it takes is for someone to point out a few things and your game will get better. Now the thing is not to forget it and fall back into the rut you just got out of. Make notes so you can always reflect back to the things you have learned. Keep up the good work :thumbup:

I too have taken a 4 hour lesson from Lee (kept calling him Bret thinking it is Bret Lee - like the Australian cricket fast bowler). He found several flaws, but just one - the stance has taken me a long way. Also the inside the box and the outside the box approach has helped a lot.

Actually it's easy to attribute the success to the lesson since ,, we not only have past performances but player watching who have seen how he played in previous matches
and they saw a noticeable improvement

As an old school no aiming system player... Lee stayed with us last weekend. Of course pool was the major topic of enthusiasm. His passion is undeniable. My good buddy, AZ's DoodySquat had a 2 hour lesson with him which many witnessed.

He broke down the game of pool into such understandable fundamentals. But he DOES have a peculiar Liverpool accent. ;)

Ya, that's completely logical. One lesson and one race to 4.

You can't possibly look at this without a jaded approach, and think well that's good shooting, but it's not an indicator of anything until there is a larger group of games/matches to poll from.

Lol I will check back in after a few more matches to let you know how I'm doing

Lee Brett helped me advance in my APA league from an OK 4 to a 7 within a few months.

There's a lot of people that knock him on here for some reason but not even counting the BS APA handicap thing my game has truly improved a LOT from his help.

Since his lessons I took on a different approach from a book I got and it just went completely backwards. I was playing the worst I've played in forever for several months.

He helped me a bit via PM on here and I started trying to recall my lesson with him and went back to work.

I've improved from before after having to completely reset back to nothing and re-teach myself what he taught me. It helped me see other things I was doing wrong and really understand what he wanted me to understand before.

His stance is more of a snooker setup and I'm a firm believer.

I can't wait to meet up with him again and show him that I can get through the drills I couldn't before.

100% positive feedback on my end from his teaching.

You must have missed the part that before he played the guy, a guy whom he never has beaten, felt confidence in his new routine.... this is a game of millimeters, and confidence and playing to win, and shooting not to lose go a very long way.

Appears you have never given a lesson to someone and seen the direct results and seen the immediate feedback.

Lee was here last weekend & gave a private lesson to Doodysquat. he was nice enough, to let us all sit-in; 8 people were glued & the room was silent. there is definitely a difference, in English training - and US mindset. now i understand how/why EUR continues to beat US....

Lee Brett is cool. and a damn good shot! he's hard to understand - but that's because he's English & doesn't speak our language.... which makes you listen even harder, to what he's trying to teach you.

i caught myself last night, passing on his tips to a female teammate. she's an up&comer who had wanted to get with Lee while in town. she was stuck. couldn't make a shot for nothing. after 2 (of 5) simple tips, she got her mind right & started slamming them back in!

Thought I would chime in here and say that my 2 hours with Lee was great. He had me shoot random shots and watched my warm up routine and then we went to work. His teachings on "Inside and Outside the "Box were a tremendous help. He also noticed a slight quickness to my backswing transition to the stroke and slowed me down a little, and that has improved my accuracy a great deal. I now a little surprised when miss! Especially long straight ins have improved dramatically. Can' t say enough good things about Lee. If he is ever in your area, schedule some table time with him. Great Instructor!
