My New Billiard Glasses

I looked through the internet for billiard glasses. Decided to order a pair from Bill Curran Optical out of PA. I live in MO. The process to order the glasses was easy. Mr. Curran confirmed my requirements with a phone call. The glasses arrived yesterday. I played one pocket today for 4 hours. What an absolute pleasure. I put them on and never touched them again until I stopped shooting. Beautiful. No frames to obstruct my view. No distortion. Very light weight. Didn't even realize I had them on unless I thought about. What a great decision. They really help my concentration. Jeepers, I cant believe the difference. Service was great. Timing was just as described on their website. The glasses came with a case, 2 bottles of cleaner, 2 cleaning cloths. I just wanted to share my experience with other pool players.

Do these glasses have there optic center raised?

Yes, the optical center is raised. I was Bill's first customer for pool glasses in 2005 or so. I'm local to him and have been going to him since the early 90's. Great glasses.

Do these glasses have there optic center raised?

I think the optical center should be raised but not as much as most of the past discussions on this topic here suggest. Getting the optical centers precisely in line with your vision when you're down on the shot is not ideal, because aiming is a holistic process that starts while you're walking around the table. By the time you're down on the shot, most of your aiming is already done. Likewise, those who suggest bending the frames to get the lenses at the right angle when you're down on the shot also are on the wrong track.

The optical center should be somewhere between where you look when you're standing and where you look when you're down on the shot. Also, lenses should be made with Trivex, which has the least amount of distortion as you move away from the optical center.

My optometrist emphatically agreed with the above assessment. He is a sports vision specialist who works with many types of athletes including shooting sports. He also played pool pretty seriously in the past.

i believe (but could be wrong)
its not that the optical center is raised
but
the lens is made to be the same thru out the vertical axis of the lens
and
it is high enough in the vertical axis to allow you to look thru the lens when down on the shot
last
the focal point is designed from your prescription to be 3-12 feet
perfect for playing on a 9 foot table

I saw a guy take his regular glasses off and removed the arms... He then flipped the glasses upside down and reinstalled the arms. When he put them on , upside down but arms fit over ears correctly, the glasses set higher up and he played pool..The piece that goes over the nose actually sat on top of his nose.. Switched them back when he was finished... It thought that is crazy... But worked.... lol

That *is* crazy. He would also have to swap right eyeball to his left eye socket and vice versa.

Did he also slap them on a cue and use them as a bridge?

Probably too early, but would you say that you've seen any measurable improvement - such as you're playing a ball, ball and a half or whatever better? Also, now with the glasses is there like so type of learning curve ; basically like kinda relearning how to aim with them now or is everything basically the same - just easier to see or less strain to see? TIA!

I think these glasses are a great idea, but I'll swear they're
mostly just to shark your opponent. Lol.
In sincerity though, I might get a pair just to see if there's
proof in the pudding.
My Raybans are pretty dang comfy and can't imagine
any glasses helping me see much better, but I'm game.

I can say my concentration and sighting has improved and noticeably in this short time. I’m estimating my game will improve 10 - 20 %. They have really helped.

I got a pair of billiard glasses a couple months ago. I googled "billiard glasses" and only several sites came up. I then searched for "snooker glasses" and a ton of sites from over the pond showed up. Mine were around $150usd shipped. They have the hinged arms. It is definitely a whole new picture using them and I am confident they are improving my game. Highly recommend getting a pair if you are peeking over the top of your glasses or craning your neck to see.
