my new cue

At the price that is on that blank I know of no one except maybe Adams or Taiwan where I believe Adams had there full spliced cues made. Burton was always proud of his work so I'm sure he would have charged more than that. In the mid eighties you could get veneered prongs from praether for around 20-25.00 but Burtons was around a 100.00 if I remember right.

thanks for the input , but i politely dissagree with all of it.

Mr Showman,

Its nice of you to keep us guessing, but who would have made such a blank.. especially as a full splice.. I can only think it may be a scruggs, stroud blank when they were with Joss..

Mike,

Joss built this exact cue too. The timing is right, 1971.

Hey, thanks for the shaft by the way - perfect! That was an ivory ferrule by the way - even better.

Can someone explain to me how this is a full splice? This is not meant to be derogatory, I just don't understand. I thought a full splice went all the way to the butt cap. This cue looks to be a half splice.

Please help!

Jim

It's a short full-splice blank. It's not a half splice, at least in Burton Spain's definition. "Half Splice" is what Burton called the V-groove inlay of individual pieces for each prong. I.e., today's traditional way of making the prongs.

"Full-splice" describes the the splice technique, not the length. Therefore, the "opposite" of full-splice is half-splice.

For full-spliced cues, full-splice cuemakers might use the term "full length" or "short blank."

Personally, I hate the term short splice because it's confusing, and it doesn't really mean anything. All half-splice blanks are short. And a full-splice blank can be short or full-length.

Fred <~~~ it's confusing, but shouldn't be

Hey Fred you're getting as bad as Jimbo with that cue design stuff with this.

Can you measure it and post the measurement? If it's 18" it must be a Spain blank that someone marked later.
