My new Guerra cue, with story

blah blah

Shoebat
I'd put this in the Cue Gallery, except the back story is important to the cue itself, so I'm throwing it in the Main Forum. Please move if you don't agree.

All of my cues in the past have been whatever was a good price, or cues that were gifts. (I'm very tight with money.) This means that all of my cues have generally been as- is. I’ve been very lucky to get really nice bargains... but they’re not necessarily my perfect players.

Years of AZB showed me a lot of the different choices and wide varieties of cues, woods, tapers, shafts, and I started trying out other people's cues against my own. I began thinking of what my dream cue would be, if I could choose everything. Ultimately, I realized I didn't even care how my Perfect Player would look- I really only cared how it played.

I ran into Tony and, on a pure whim, gave him the strict measurements I wanted. Weight, butt diameter, taper length and width, not too springy or stiff- I was picky. And I wanted a leather wrap. BUT: I didn't care how it looked. Told him to pick the wood, leather, do points or none, whatever rings or none that he wanted. He was the artist and the wood guy- let him make a cue he was proud to have me toting all over the world… And I am so cheap and anti- social that when I walked away, I thought, “Wtf did I just do?”

Tony exceeded expectations, all the way around. He regularly emailed me pictures, but I wouldn't let myself feel anything because it's all about the hit, and pretty doesn't mean player. He finished it way faster than ever anticipated, and met me at my local room tonight so I could try it out. The weight/ feel/ hit are all perfect. Perfect. Couldn’t be more pleased.

Pictures are below, and you can see: it's a beautiful, beautiful cue. I am amazed to admit that beauty counts.

It IS tulipwood- but I'll have to share a pic tomorrow night of the inside joint. He said it has a purpleheart core and tried to point it out to me.

Brought it home and let fiance hit with it. He fell in love immediately with the solid hit and now he wants one...

Really he wants mine, but when it was clear that it would be a huge brawl, he started considering his desired specs.

That's one hell of a tulipwood he used.

Great looking cue!

I might have to have him make a copycat of it one day.

really nice Cue Tony build you:grin:
That Dude can play Pool:confused::eek::grin:
Yeah cored with PH give it the nice Hit:thumbup2:

Ralf

The tulipwood on that cue is just super nice.
Nice to see you again Mia :)
Mia is also a really good player.
I have know Mia for 3 years now but we never talked much... until we talked about a cue ;)
The cue has a nice bison leather wrap.

Not really a tulipwood fan, generally...:sorry:

but that is a lovely piece of firewood. Almost looks spalted, and blood red (does the grain look red in-person)? And since it is cored...two thumb up!

I like it. You 2 better be proud, dammit!

The only picture I enhanced was the joint picture- for clarity of the rings. But yes, the red shows through, as best seen in the full cue pic.

It really is beautiful- the wood is so pretty that any decoration would have taken away from the pure simple beauty of it.

I was very tired and in a hurry when we met last night- he surprised me when he said that it was cored, and all I could think of was Harry Potter's cored wand. (There's a joke in there somewhere.)

Tony-- Have a great time in Chicago. If you have time, go up to the top of the Sears Tower (or whatever they call it now), stand in the windowbox, and look down. Mindboggling.
