Cool, first time, I have seen that. Nice of him to do that!
I ask the same of the guy who made my custom, but he was too busy. :o

jerry is too busy also. he has plenty of work. he provides a service that no one else does. he makes u a part of your cue and thats what makes it most special. u dont get on a inflated list and 5 yrs later you have a cue out of the blue

Hay John!

If you get tierd of them there Scruggs cues I will be happy to get back that Green monster. You know the signed one with all the inlays!
Nick :)

Damnit John!

Comparing cues,

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=60906

Let me think,

I have 3 Rambows, http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=54614

2 Tascarellas, 14 Scruggs,

several Richard Blacks, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year Palmers,

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=52928

and 130+ other cues in my collection. Guess which cue I keep coming back to, a Jerry Rauenzahn. No I don't officially own an authenticated Szamboti or Balabushka, but several of my unknown cue maker cues could possibly be one of theirs without documentation. I have 15 titlist cues including Verl Horn, Phillippi, and Migliori, I also have a Spider Web Samsara, several old Adams, a couple old 68-72 Joss and early JossWest cues, also 2 original Paradise cues. http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=48334

SO if you want to ask me which cue I prefer, guess which cue I shoot with daily, a Jerry -R- cue. I also have a couple of early 1912-1915 Brunswick model 360's that easily could be Rambow cues (they're closet queens). I have too many choices, but I know the hit I pefer and Jerry has what I am looking for at a very, very reasonable price. When I go out and play at the local watering hole I feel great with one of his cues.

John

Excellent thread - no one has chewed off anyone else's butt yet. I stopped even reading the Main Forum because you have to watch every word that comes off your keyboard or you get flamed. Something nice about the unwritten civility in "Buy/Sell" threads.

Ken - you need to buy Duane's Buska Rauenzahn that's on ebay now, just to save me from it. It is ebony and has about the same veneer colors as the Model 26 1/2 he's doing for me now - it's so tempting it's killing me.

like i said if it wasnt for gus barry wouldnt even be making cues. his prices are outrageous and ppl still buy them.

Not really sure where you get that from. Every cue that Barry sells can be taken out and sold for double the purchase price in the open market. Gus was the same way and Barry continues the tradition. It's that simple!

I own one of Jerry's cues and I am extremely happy with it and i would buy another one, but a Szamboti is in a whole different league.

Exactly.. They may be great cues for the money, and I like the designs, in fact they are designs I am very comfortable with and are the way I order my cues from all the cuemakers I order from. But as far as him getting 4 or 5x more than his current asking price, not happening, not now, not ever. You would be approaching Searing money and those two ain't in the same ball park, hell they ain't even on the same planet. No one is ordering -R- cues and flipping them for 2 and 3 times the retail.
Two things that stand out to me right now.. the rounded inlays. I know, he could go in and point them if he wanted to, but he doesn't. That is a shame because his cues would be that much better if he took the time and pointed the inlay work. Secondly.. I can name 10 other cuemakers that during the build process they will more than happily send you pics or scans. This is no miracle of customer service. I am sure there are guys that won't do it, but they IMHO are the exception.
Make no mistake, I think for what I have seen him charge, its a great buy to the immediate purchaser. I think thats great, especially in todays market where you need to pony up more for a similarly designed cue. But thats where it ends. No need to drag Barry, Gus or anyone else into the discussion. Because now your talking blue chip cues which are again, in a whole other league. Gus had a saying about standing on your own merits.. it applies to this thread more than anything I have seen.

Not any more! Jerry's prices have almost doubled in the last year or two but not quite. If you bought one a year or two ago maybe but now the story is different. And he is raising his prices again shortly almost 30%.
And like I said a Szam is Szam is a Szam and a Scruggs is a Scruggs is a Scruggs! They cost what they do because everyone knows there value and reputation.
Cuecalssics is right! They stand on there own.
Are all these cues worth what they cost? Only the market will decide and has and there is not arguement there!

ur right nick well said. jerry prices are going up and up. he is getting more work then he can handle.

also to everyone that thinks i am trashing barry or whatever. thats not my intention. i said it b4 and ill say it again. all i am saying is if i play with my jerry or play with my barry there is not a $3,000 difference. my jerry accually plays better feels better and responds better. when i swing my jerry i am comfortable and confident in it. thats wy my barry is sitting in a fellini case under the bed. great investment cue but doesnt have the playabilite that my jerry does.

ps wyld78 youre a moron. everytime u post something stupid i am goint to quote it with one word... moron

Hay Dave!

I am going to look for you on T.V.! I had no idea you were and wounder if you ever have been on the tube?

well i dont know about that. im not here to argue that but do youself a favor.

search the threads for rauenzahn and see how much his name is brought up about restoration or conversions. when u do that. do you think if he chooses to cut his output in half (by the way makes LESS that 100 cues a year) on a conversion he couldnt get double what hes asking? i know he could bc ppl are going to him anyway.

he sends me randon pics of an old english wedge cue restored or better yet an old brunswick 26 1/2 that it looked like someone took outside and hit rocks in the parking lot with it.

I have to wonder how many times Jerry and Barry have read this thread laughing their asses off. (<:
