I'm a big fan of purpleheart and lean towards the more simple designs.

The butt and forearm are purpleheart. The wrap is leather and the two shafts are made from fiddleback maple.
The pin is 3/8x10 with a wood-wood joint. I had John put Moori medium tips on both shafts and they play very well.

I'm very happy with the cue's hit, color and workmanship and would recommend John to anyone.
He's a true gentleman to deal with.

Looking at that Shaft with the Rings I bet it hits well.

Speaking of Purple Heart this is a JM that was built for a lady that never played with it as she gave up the game. Sit in my closet hoping someday she will again play pool.
