My new Varney J/B & review

Does your Varney j/b have that canvas resin ferrule tip?

Id like to know how to jump a ball 1" away from the cue ball. I think it takes more than a good jump cue. It takes a skilled jumper. Anyone got an instructional video showing how to jump that close? ie the angle etc. I know the angle is very steep...and you must use a dart stroke...but its not easy. Even bridging at that angle is very difficult unless you are next to a bank. How many times do you have to jump when you are close to a bank? Rarely.

Hi.. Yes I belive it is a canvas resin tip, but I don't believe the ferrule is. Kevin, please clarify if needed.

Yes I did use the dart stroke.. I am only 5'8 so it is a little easier for me. I was only experimenting at that distance, as I don't practice that shot much.

Thanks.
Craig

The tip is indeed canvas-resin, stemmed & threaded into an unbreakable Ivorine 4 ferrule. Doesn't draw any unwanted attention from opponents or tournament directors.

Lol you should forgive dave, he's looking for a job sweeping up Varney's sawdust...and imo he should've gotten the gig 10 shameless posts ago.

LOL, for everyones info, I now have this part time job Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 6pm.:D Thanks goes out to buddha162 for putting in a word for me to Mr. Varney.:D Varney says if I do a good job, He will promote me to full time. :p I was also surprised today when he let me take out the trash.:D

And for the record, I STILL HAVE a cocobolo Gilbert J/B as well as a 4 ebony pt. in purpleheart forearm playing cue from Andy Gilbert. I like them both and I will not sell either of them as well. I just think Varneys play and hit better, that's all. I had one of Gulyassys 1st j/bs, before he made the phenolic tip, I sold it because I did not like it. Had a Rick Howard as well. Nothing wrong with it. Never tried the X-breaker.

Easy, easy!!! You are going to give my wife a complex about her shop vac skills!:D Plus Dave, you forgot to mention the blindfold part.:p

I have several Varney cues, they are all I'll ever use. If I couldn't use my Varney break cue then I'd rather not play. Its that important!

Yes I have seen those videos. Thanks

Dave...I noticed in your sig you have 3 j/b cues? haha...cant you make up your mind? If you had the Varney j/b you could write a comprehensive review of them all my man!

There's only two, and one jumper. Everything but the x-breaker (got it a week ago) is for sale, that should tell you which I like best, the x-breaker gives the j&j the 8. But like you say I haven't tried a Varney J/B yet, allthough as my sig shows I will be getting one of his playing cues.

gr. Dave

Theoretically you could order a break shaft as well, it might play similar to the j/b on the breaking end. I would THINK it would be better since the jump joint isn't there, who knows? Oh by the way... How much for a regular shaft KV? I like the 314 but I want to try your stock regular shaft.

Kevin modified my Fury j/b and put a canvas resin tip on with that special white ferrule. I like it MUCH better than the original 1 piece phenolic that comes on the Fury. I plan to write up a little reveiw at some point. I would like it to compare it to an x breaker. My gut feel is it would be hard to see a difference.

MY new Varney

Just a heads up, Jerico has a patent on a tip with a donkey d--- on it that goes into the ferrule. I'm not endorsing the patent, but thought you might want to know. The patent controversy has been well discussed in another thread, so don't want to start it again.
