This is my new wrapless player by Kevin Varney. The forearm and butt sleeve are Brazilian rosewood from the 1970s. The handle is old growth birdseye maple. The joint is older "grained" Elforyn. The joint collars and butt cap are black Juma. The dashed ring work is phenolic billet. The Hoppe ring in the butt sleeve is traditional ivory colored Juma. Brass 3/8-10 joint pin. Two 13 mm shafts with Juma ferrules and Triangle tips.
This is my very first made-for-me wrapless playing cue. I've always had Irish Linen wraps before now. I've had the cue since last Thursday and like it a lot so far. I intend to do a short review after I've had the cue a couple of weeks, probably before we leave for the Open. I've used Kevin's pictures as I'm lousy at taking pictures of cues.

Pleased to hear that you like the cue so far. I look forward to reading your review. Enjoy the new cue & enjoy the Open as well!!!

"Oh no no no! Pushout with a cue that does NOT have an Irish Linen wrap?!? And liking it? What is this world coming to?"

:p

P.S.: you know I couldn't resist, right?

I hear ya. That was just some friendly needling you saw in post #3. I'm actually a wrapless cue fan myself. My main player cues are a Noel Mendoza "Hugo Patino" model Schuler cue, and a Viking G01 -- both wrapless. But they're not nearly as gorgeous as Pushout's new cue above.

I'd been thinking about it since before I first talked to Kevin, if you must know:rolleyes: The only other wrapless cues I owned were a couple of sneaky petes, one Palmer and much later on a fairly recent Joss. This is much better!! AND MY IRISH LINEN STILL AIN'T SLIPPERY:D
Sean, if you get to the Open, the pictures don't do it justice, you need to see it in person.

I've used Kevin's pictures as I'm lousy at taking pictures of cues.

First, let me say THANK YOU to everyone for the kind words. Gary has always been so super nice to me, I put my heart into this build trying to get it flawless for him & the nice comments are really appreciated.

You aren't the only one lousy with a camera Gary.:embarrassed2: I only wish I could take pictures this good. I must give credit to my lovely wife as she's the one with the mad photo skills. She even built the little studio set up so we could quit taking pics of them laying on the pool table. She's extremely talented & I'm very fortunate to benefit from it.

Where did you find the Brazilian Rosewood? That cue looks very nice.

I bought some several years ago from another cuemaker that was thinning his stash as he winds things down. I bought all that was available...wish I could get more. This wood has an incredible tone...amazing. Plus the deep rich colors...in person you can see orange & purple. There is a reason the good Brazilian is nearly impossible to lay hands on. I was going to use some AAA+ birdseye for my new player...after spending some table time with Gary's cue...I've changed my mind.;)

Brazilian rosewood is worth it's weight in gold. I needed some small pieces to make chip repairs on my Centennial rails. I found some, but not enough to repair all the chipped places. The guitar people love it for it's tonal qualities. I think it's one of the best looking wood species on earth.

Edited to say, It's been on the endangered species list since 1970.

Push, I'm glad you finally seed da light! I've been wrapless for 2 years. Wonderful looking cue BTW. Kevin does good work. He made me a super shaft for an old Heubler.

Love it! I'm usually not a fan of the purple hued woods but this one is striking.

Great work as usual Kevin. My J/B and wrapless player are still banging away and great additions to my aresenal.

You do some awesome work my friend!

It's a fun journey.

My Olney looks a lot like this one. Very nice!!

I wanted to make mention of this once again. Edd's hypnosis cd is designed for pool players. He has quite a few degrees in psychology, one of them is a doctorate degree in Psychology.

He has designed a CD just for pool players and it works quite well. He also works with golfers and you would do yourself a favor by visiting his website if you need help with breaking habits or relaxing. I have had a lot of problems with relaxing and my journey has taken me to hypnosis as well as many other things.
