So, I own a diamond pool table. I'm having an $800 cue built. I went out to dinner the other night treating my mother in law and her boyfriend and spent $400 or so (it was damn delish). I'm blowing a chunk of change renting a 48 foot boat to tour the Lot river valley in France over the summer for a few weeks (final cost TBD).

And yet...I drive a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder with 280,000 miles that has nice rust accents, leaky roof, tailgate has to be propped open with a stick. Kelly bluebook won't go back to 1991, but it thinks a 1992 model in similar condition is worth about the same price as my dinner the other night, lol.

My decision making is suspect, my azb buds...

Not at all. When you're ready, give that car away and get the ride you always wanted. It's okay to be good to yourself! :)
 
It's obvious your personal transportation isn't a priority but I suspect when it becomes one, the
vehicle you get will be a step up from now. It's same as cues, get what you like and can afford.
 
$400 for Dinner for 3? That must have been good,There is no Place around here that would even be 1/2 that.

Well, it was for 4, forgot to mention the wife, hopefully you guys won't tell her, lol. And got the good bottle of wine with scotch after dinner drinks. Quite the investment guru I am, lol.

Hmmm... Unfortunately my favorite ride is the honda element, and I think that they ceased production of that model, dammit!

Ok,Your off the Hook.4 People including Drinks is high but not too crazy.Everybody enjoys their Money different ways.I am not big on fancy Cars either,I've had my 2000 Honda Civic SI for going on 12 Years.

I will admit it is the most expensive dining experience I've ever had. But we did get everything we wanted including the dozen raw oysters, lol.
 
Let me try to break it down:

1/ Your own Diamond table: You get to enjoy the table for YEARS to come. If you ever need to sell it, you will get most of your money back out of it. So you're probably spending pennies per week for enjoyment. Not a bad investment at all.

2/ $800 Custom Cue: See Above. You could possibly sell the cue for more down the road as well.

3/ Expensive dinner with In-Laws: Smart Move. Happy in-laws usually make happy wives. Happy wives will let you do anything. :)

4/ An expensive trip to France: Priceless memories.

5/ 1991 vehicle: Cars are notoriously the worst things money can buy, like flushing money down the toilet. Yet, you're sticking with a very old vehicle that is beat up - that gets you from point A to point B just fine.

Dude, I think your priorities are in perfect order.

Sounds fine to me!

While not quite in the same league I drive a '03 Pontiac Vibe GT w/196,000 on the clock. Runs great still and if it wasn't for little things like the power doors not working, radio not working, etc I'd probably keep it for a few more years. As it is, I'm shopping for my first ever new car, probably a GTI. But for the last 9 years I've been driving my Vibe and it's treated me well. For the last couple years the value of the cues and case I take with me the pool hall surpassed my car.

Nothing wrong with not prioritizing an expensive car as long as you have something that works.
 
I drive cars until they simply will not go any longer. Two of those come to mind. A 1995 Chrysler LHS and a 2005 VW Jetta. The Jetta replaced the LHS when the LHS just gave up after about 260,000 miles and the Jetta just gave up with about 380,000 miles. Somehow the wife convinced me she needed a minivan so we have that now and I dont think she will let me get away with running that until the wheels fall off.
 
Mr Logan....I think your priorities are just fine.....
..I've been off this continent a lot....
..but I've never driven to a tournament in a vehicle that was worth the cues in my case.
...I've never bought a new car or truck.



...'course, i also like Dijon mustard on my butterscotch ice cream....:o

My buddies cue is worth more than his car, I tell him him to get a new car every time I see him! His responses are usually: it gets me from A to B, nobody is gonna break in it or steal it, he never has to drive when others are involved (they won't ride in it) cheap insurance.
All very logical responses if you ask me!
