Nice! Has he been to the Junior Nationals yet?

Yeah.... I think he barely finished outside of the top 16... We no longer have a 9 foot table, and I don't think he understands the true level of play required to snap off any National Junior event...

That's great. Now it's time for your kid to start gambling.

Ahhhh.. No worries...

He was actually playing a bit better last year... We won the A Team State Championships together (one level below AA/AAA), and in multiple matches he broke and ran the final 8 ball rack in the last round to win the match!

He's been a little too "recreational" in the past year, if you get my drift, and that has affected his ability to concentrate..

This tournament was more about being taught the proper way to play big table rotation games, and the lessons stuck through the matches he needed to win... :-)

He just practices a ton at home? Took lessons?

This is under 18?

Under 19.. He just turned 18 last month. He is eligible to play in this event 1 more time... 3-peat? This year and last, he double-dipped both times...

I taught him everything he knows. No lessons.

We had a 9 foot Red Label Diamond that he played on for a year or two. His big leap came when I taught him how to think about the game.

I'm the best C player you ever saw... :-)

But... On a serious note.. The year Morra won the Banks at DCC? I had him down 2-1 in the One Pocket, and couldn't fade the heat of having SVB and Brandon Shuff sweating the hell outta my match.

Not trying to brag, just saying he has natural hand/eye coordination, and I play pretty good big table 9 ball, and simply passed along the knowledge. Stroke only gets you so far before you have to make the right decisions... He has also shown a ton of heart at times...

C player...lmao. C players don't beat the ghost on a 9 foot diamond. Kid must have had a good teacher. Congrats.

Great job to the BOTH of you!!! I think that's something of which to be very proud...for both the teacher and the student! :)

Very nice Russ. And yes, he did take lessons, from YOU. Very little chance he'd be standing up there 2 years running without you assistance. Of course, he had to put in the table time with what you showed him and he did it ? CONGRATS :grin-square:

Russ, this is why I asked where you lived the other day. I was playing in a tournament at Felt in Englewood and saw your kids name on a flyer for that tournament. Thought you might be around.

I was, but my wife and I left him and his sister back in colorado, and I took a job in Germany.

I had been playing mostly barbox pool in the Denver area, but had a good streak last year when I was playing more and placed top 4 in every big tournament I played in for like 3-4 months... Our AA/AAA team placed 3rd I think in the VNEA Regional Team Championships around that time, too. Along with a top-32 finish in National BCA Team 8 ball...

Won't be there to try to improve on those results, but on a positive note.. There are no bartables in Germany... AWLLLL 9 footers, baby!

I am going to try to prepare and go to DCC 2018... Hope to see you there, Easy...
