a little busy, look at the forearm. busy forearm + busy sleeve = cue in harmony. i guess thats why god made some of us collectors and some of us designers.

i think i asked before but what sofware do you use for design?
jab said:This is the fanciest hoppe butted cue he has made.
iconcue said:good question! i've never really understood what qualifies a buttocks as hoppe?
Yes, thats part of it. The old Hoppe butted cues really don't have a rubber bumper to my knowledge. This particular cue originally didn't have the very small bumper you can see on it now. If you look on proficient billiards site in gallery under Barry"s cues you will find it w/o one. It had a rubber seal there to satisfy me in not exposing the bolt. Recently, Barry counterbored the weight bolt and put the small bumper on cue that you see now. Even though the cap is made of a super strong polycarbonate, I became paranoid about ever nicking this cue. If I ever decide otherwise, i can just remove it. Barry notates this cue as well I as a Hoppe butt. I believe that description is predicated more on the flat, surface, sans the bumper, bolt exposed rather than the ring that is mostly associated with the name. Also, hoppe butted cues used to never be this ornate so I think to "fill in" the long space between the end of butt and wrap the ring made a handsome addition besides a place for initials etc... jab.zeeder said:I don't understand how it is a hoppe style butt. Could someone please explain?! I see no Hoppe ring. Is it the Short butt cap that you're talking about?

Listen, Jimbo; If I were you I wouldn't speak for Barry on this subject. HE DID make this cue WITHOUT a rubber bumper almost 14 years ago and as I said before, I requested the bumper only recently. I know full well what a standard hoppe butt looks like and need no collaborating pictures. I am saying that in my opinion, this is a Hoppe style butt for the reasons I previously stated. I also know the line of reasoning that you are on. I happen to have a copy of my original build specifications on that cue where Barry states HOPPE STYLE BUTT. Your words " AS I understand the term" says it all. Opinions----JimBo said:
A hoppe butt has an Ivory band that butts up to a black ring and NO bumper, but Barry doesn't like to use no bumper so he puts a smaller then normal rubber insert. IMO that isn't a Hoppe style butt as I understand the term. I'd post a few pics of what I mean but as we all know I don't know how to post pics;-)

Why not? All I said was that he doesn't like to do cues without bumpers, he puts the small bumper in. There I just did it again I spoke for him. As a matter of fact I have just become his official spokesperson, if you want to ask him a question you'll have to go threw me from now on.

I'm sure he did, I don't think I disagreed, but as of now he likes to put a small bumper in (Oppps I spoke for him again).

Then you know that what you have is a very fancy variation.

Good then we agree, why you gettin all worked up??

Thats right, usually, but some do not. I agree.classiccues said:Hoppe butts usually have the "Hoppe" ring. The ivory band above the butt cap. But not all Hoppe titlist cues had the band.

I can see why Barry doesn't get caught up in these opinionated discussions. Rest assured, if I want Barry's opinion I will go "straight to the horses mouth" I do know one end from the other.JimBo said:Barry may have been drinking that week, in any event that is a really nice cue and if you'd like to hear any more of Barry's opinions feel free to ask me and I will speak for him.

Jimbo, My B.P. is actually a little low! I thought you would enjoy some sarcastic banter. Somewhere in it was a glimmer of dark humor, I thought. In reality, I liked the verbal sparring session with you rooster; if it appears I hit below the belt, I am sorry. p.s. thanks for the advice-I'm having one right now! Regards,Jay.JimBo said:Maybe like many you just need a humor transplant, in any event it was fun getting your BP up a few. All I did was add some info as to what he likes to do now, go to the head or the ass whatever makes you happy, but what I said wasn't offensive towards you and really had nothing to do with you or your cue. Also as far as joe is concerned if I said the sun will come up today he'd argue with me, he kinda has a complex when it comes to me. The debate was about what most consider to be a "Hoppe Style" butt, not if all the originals came that way or anything close to that. If you were to ask 25 cuemakers what a "Hoppe Style" butt was you'd get 25 answers and 90% if not all would say Ivory band on a black butt with NO bumper, it's just what's accepted as the "Hoppe Style". I still love the cue, now go have a beer and loosen up.

The sayings that the sun "rises" or "comes up" are misnomers. I suppose you could say that the earth will "go down" tomorrow. More accurately though would be the earth will rotate toward the sun allowing us to view said sun!
