My take on galveston

Sounds like a great event. It is a shame the top Europeans will not be able to play due to a date clash and no WPA sanctioning.

I know several that would have happily made the trip.

I agree but I know there will be lots of top quality players trying to get a piece of the BIG MONEY PIE.

Wow, that should attract a crowd. It could be bigger than Derby City.
I think it is likely to have more total players due to the bar table events and the presence of 140 or so 7-foot tables. I plan to be there for the whole event.

This looks like an awesome event. Tons of pool tables, near the beach, reasonable room rates, pro and amateur events, and an action room.

How about waiting to say or imply how terrible this tournament is until and unless the tournament is over and it actually sucks?

Is the goal to be the next person who can say "I predicted it would suck, bask in the warm glow of my clairvoyant brilliance!"?

Lou,

What you don't understand, perhaps, and all respect to you sir... is that those questions are really unfounded and they breed negativity. They put the "what if" in people's head.

If I walked up to a new restaurant and started asking myself all the "what ifs" about it, I may never try a new restaurant. What if the chef didn't wash his hands? What if I don't like their rice? What if a meteorite hits the building while I'm dining? What if they don't allow me to have as many drinks as I please?

The point is, you can come up with thousands of "what ifs" and never knwo the real answer until you TRY! There is no reason to ask the what ifs.

You need to give it a chance and then analyze the results.

I guess we disagreed. I'm not asking where the money is coming from or whether they've washed their hands. I'm just curious about their use of the word "guaranteed" and how many players are paid up. Others are interested in other aspects of the event and have their own questions. What's the problem?

Who and where has anyone said or implied that the tournament is going to tank? Where has anyone tried to look like The Amazing Kreskin?

Lou, at least one have paid:D. I sent in a lot of dollars today - registering for as many tournaments as I can.

So I will probably be one of very few europeans who attend. I dont play the Eurotour, and can therefore without the help of EPBF / WPA decide for myself which tournaments I can play, both in USA and in the Philippines.

Great, pooladdict!

I sincerely hope you have a fantastic time and get a big honkin' slice of the money pie.

I didn't suggest that you said these things, but a number of people have! I really don't want to dig through the endless pages of threads on this to find all the negative comments... but I certainly can if you desire.

Nailed it

I think that this position is completely short-sighted, no offense Lou.

We are talking about a major event that is about to be put on here that has the intent of changing pool, which we ALL know is a dying sport... and more rapidly than some may realize.

I could go back and search through some of the derogatory comments made about the event and it's promoters and post them here, but it's a waste of time.

The fact is that you can't prove a negative. So, does it really help to ask questions that propose really bad situations and expect some sort of answer? We can all sit here and come up with all sorts of doomsday scenarios for the event, but no one will ever know until it happens.

I absolutely understand your point that people have been burned and had their guts torn out by past scum balls. This business is often a shady one and participating in it is going to leave you heartbroken sometimes. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. These guys get one shot at impressing us, if they don't you can just add it to the stack of scum balls.

So, to answer your question... no, I don't think anybody on here has come out and openly said DO NOT ATTEND THIS EVENT OR ELSE, but throwing out conspiracy theories is only going to discourage people from choosing to make the trip. This isn't a cheap trip for some, even in Texas. It's a long event at a resort, hotels add up... the drive from Houston is not short or cheap, etc. Many people are probably looking for a reason not to attend and if they see a bunch of people questioning it they probably aren't going.

I agree that this is a pool forum to discuss issues, etc... but the REALITY is that this is the center of the pool world now, like it or not, at least in the US. People often take what is written here as gospel and look to it to guide them to events, to action, how to play, etc. It's a little naive to think that everyone is going to be able to take what is written on these forums with a grain of salt and have the perspective that the discussions here are just behind the scenes to help improve the event.

I wholeheartedly agree with everything Billy has said here... don't poop where you masticate.

That's exactly my sentiment as well. My objective is to get as many players, professionals, and amateurs interested in supporting this tournament, to give our game, and the professional players that play in tournaments a better chance to succeed.

All of us have taken on challenges, sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, never the less whether we win or lose we will continue to stay in the game, that's the American way. This group is also taking on a challenge, which if they win, our game and the players that play the game will win as well. If you truly love our game as I do then you need to get behind groups that try to promote our sport, particularly at this level. It has taken a lot of thought, money, work, and faith for this project to get to this level, now it's up to us to sustain it.

None of us have a crystal ball that we can look into to see the outcome of events, why speculate and offer differen't scenarios and possibilities of what could happen. But we all have the ability to get behind something that could be great for the game we love. The way I see it, it's like a pool game that I handicapped, I like the game, I like the odds, and if I don't win i'll quit and make another game, and rerack the balls.:D

I agree with your sentiment too, Billy. I think we should get behind groups that promote the game. I just don't think that pool players should do that *blindly.* I mean really, do a little due diligence. I know you do that when matching up with an unknown for any kind of decent stakes. As a matter of course, under those circumstances, you make the other guy post ;-)

OK, no problemo. The way you wrote it, it seemed like you were saying it was me.
