My tip got broken in two pieces

Hello,

I recently bought my cue stick, a McDermott G203 with a Kamui Black Tip, medium. I bought it from Ozone Billiards in Atlanta on Sept 2nd, 2012.

I never broke with it...

Yesterday, I was doing some shots and suddenly the tip fall off my cue.

Ozone says that it is under warranty so I have to contact McD... I tried to contact McD (sent them an email throught their website) and I haven't received any reply yet.

What would you recommend me to do? Send it to McD? ASk Ozone to replace the tip (or return the whole cue instead)? Or just pay $50 to get it locally replaced?

Another question, probably a newbie one: The piece is almost complete. If I decide to have it locally repaired, can I ask to use the former piece instead of a new one? This is a picture of my cue tip:

(sorry for the mess with the filename, because of my post count I can't post links directly)

Thanks in advance,
Will

You had to pay extra for Ozone Billiards to put on that Kamui tip didn't you? I don't see why that would fall under McD's warranty...

I know people that have reused a partial like that, but this tip may be defective for some reason.
Wait to see what McDermott says.
I've never heard anybody complain about McDermott's warranty, but like anything you may have to bug them a little.

Have a new tip installed by your friendly neighborhood cue repair person, and move on with your life.

The fact is, tips are not of uniform quality.
I bought some tips recently.
So far, two out of the three I have installed have quickly had chunks break off.:angry::angry:
I had never had even one tip disintegrate like that before.

McDermott will not warrenty a tip install that had nothing to do with them...Ozone is responsible........

Save on

shipping costs and have it replaced locally. I would try one of Tom Hay's
Ultraskin Tips, people are raving about them, and they are cheap. Order one, and take it to a cue repairman to put on for you.

I agree with this. Returning the cue to McDermott for a new tip will still cost you money.

Agreed! Plus, you just got your new cue and you want to use it. You'll have shipping costs and waiting period to endure. I would still address it with Ozone, however. Kamui may want to hear about this, as well. Hopefully, though no guarantee, they may send you a replacement.

Take some sand paper..make sure both surfices are clean an flush,,,then glue the tip back in place...let dry, then sand excess glue off.Having a lathe helps.

You are telling me people in your area pay $50 for a Kamui tip installed? I only charge $30. Looks like I need to up my prices!

You can get a full shaft with a Kamui from Players for under $90 :-)

The post title is a bit odd also, did the tip break in half or did it just pop off the ferrule? If it popped off, it is an installation issue and would be Ozone, if it broke in half, it's a Kamui issue.

See if Ozone will refund the price of the tip or at least ship you a new one, so you can have a spare for later if you decide to get a local guy install it.

Plus you said this just happened yesterday and you did not hear back yet, many places have a 1-2-3 day turnaround time for replies for customer support. You are probably posting this a bit too soon.

Hey, thanks for you replies. I thought the forum automatically subscribe me to my own posts :(

The tip broke in half (I posted a picture in the original post) so I guess Kamui's the culprit.

I haven't heard from McD either... after reading your replies I won't ask them to replace my tip... but it's good to know their response time.

I'll contact Ozone too.
