My Trip to the Pool Hall with My Predator Cue

After reading some threads here yesterday, I went to hit some more balls with a Predator cue this morn. The equipment is not great but not awful. The morning crew is some guys that play partners 8-ball for pride. Anyway the old red dot cb they were using is not my favorite, but I wanted to see how I liked this cue so I got in their game.

These particular players don't gamble a lick and don't play in tournaments, but they all know I do, and their game picks up a little when I play, which is ok with me. I get a chuckle out of it.

Well the 8-ball game broke up, and this one guy wanted to play some 9-ball with me..for funzies. I don't even know how to spell it, but I said ok cause I wanted to hit some more balls with this 314. So I'm trying shots I wouldn't normally shoot to check out this LD thing, and the guy is winning most of the games and starting to get a little mouthy about it. ( He normally doesn't win much against me, and that's being nice about it.)

About this time I'm starting to get a little irritated and suggest we play a race to 7 for $50. (No answer.) Ok I say " I'll even give you some weight. You go to 5 and I'll go to 7." ( Still no answer.) Now this guy thinks he won something, and he won the nothing prize cause I was not playing to win. The next thing out of his mouth was "last game" which I won and he left.

I've had this happen more than once, and it always ticks me off. I think that old red dot cb had something to do with my play being a little off because yesterday I was using a much newer Aramith green logo and was playing fine.

Sorry if this was a little long. Thanks for listening.

As in " You can't win a game, can you? " This was during my turn at the table. I am one of those guys that sits and shuts up when its the other fellas turn. I guess he didn't want to find out if I could win when it means something or he would have played.

When playing a friendly game I don't let these type of comments get to me. In your case I might have pointed out that you were trying new things and practicing shots just so he would STFU.

Never heard people bash the red dot cue ball. Unless it's the mud ball I could see what your talking about but the red dot plays good IMHO.

You are right. I wish I had thought of that. I usually don't have any trouble adjusting to different cloth, balls, ect. but I bought this cue a while back and wanted to see how it compared to my main player which has a standard maple shaft. My focus was more on what I could make the cue ball do with a LD shaft that I can't with a standard maple shaft. I have Kamui ms tips on my other cues and this one has a Moori med, so I am thinking of changing the tip?

I don't mean to offend anyone but I get tired of hearing players who have never broke and ran 2 racks of anything brag that they beat a solid A player one game in a chip tournament.

I think it was more the Moori med tip I was playing with. I have a Moori Quick on another shaft and have had that same problem. It kind of feels to me like the tip slides off the cue ball, especially when you have to shoot a shot with the cue ball froze on the rail.

just read an article in The Break by Sam Diep about things you can control and things you cannot. She stressed the importance of not letting the things you cannot control negatively effect your game.
Pool room equipment is something you cannot control.

Yes sir, you are correct, I need to work on that. The older I get, the more it seems to bother me, all those things that I can't control that is.

Much more likely it was the shaft itself. You may be playing with newer Mooris, though, and I hear they aren't as good as the originals. I never had that problem with them, myself.

I'm thinking that the only thing we really have control over is what we do. It is our bodies that we control. The stick, tip, shaft, balls, etc only do what we cause them to do. I've never seen a shaft put spin on a ball.

Has someone suspended the laws of physics in your pool room?
I will admit that I have seen some balls hanging on the edge of the pocket that seem to defy the laws of gravity.
;)
