I was at Eight Ball Billiards in the city of Maywood, CA today, 21st of April. This weekend, including today, is the three cushion open. 10 bucks to enter as a spectator. Mostly standing room only for spectators.

Saw the Shovak vs. Professor Q ball ( I think ) match. Both players made some nice shots, in the end Shovak won. I think they were going to 25, hard to know though as I was not sitting close to the beads.

Saw some other matches too but am not so familiar with the players. Tried to watch a match with Pedro Piedrabuena, but crowd surrounding the match was to big to get close enough to watch.

Even though Eight ball Billiard hall is a Latino billiard hall many Asians entered this tournament, both local and far away. I saw Sonny Cho, Mike Kang, and local player John Lee who plays with a crutch.

Saw a Match with Palofox playing, impressive.

Goerge Aeronek smokes big cigars.

The really cool part of my visit was when I ordered some food and asked a gentleman if I could sit down at the table and eat with him. It turns out he is the owner of "Tiger" who manufactures tips, shafts, and carom cues. I told him, "Thank you for sponsoring the tournament". I then began asking him a lot of questions about his shafts. I learned from chatting that Tiger produces shafts which can fit into any Longoni, Adam, Hanbatt, Wood Joint cue. The male part of the shaft joint is not wood but phenolic. Tiger Cues also produce low deflection shafts. He showed my a picture on his cell phone of designs of a new line of Tiger carom cues coming out in a few weeks, fantastic designs.

While me and the owner of Tiger cues were talking one of the waitresses asked if another gentleman could join our table to eat. You know who shows up? It is Javier Teran, famous 3c player of Ecuador. I didn't really bug him with questions because he was busy eating, But I felt it was cool sitting and eating at the same table as a high level professional 3c player.

After eating I left for home, had to do some errands around the house for my family. Not sure if I am going back on Sunday because If I have free time on Sunday I think I want to play 3c rather then watch.

I am writing this from 8 balls billiard.
Pedro made the final. I am not sure who he will be playing on the final though.

Tiger

I saw the tiger shaft with Longoni joint at SBE this year, nice but wouldn't fit into my Kilby. Pedro and Mazin both now use Tiger carom cues. Mazin uses the current top of tigers line and Pedro uses a cue that is not yet available to public.

Dance with the people that brung ya....e.g.....coalesce with those that support your sport....Tiger Cues is a major sponsor of the USBA...Gabriels is a major sponsor of the USBA......Kozoom is a partner of the USBA....Verhoeven is donated a table to the International Open at Carom Cafe...Professor Qballs publication has 3c related articles not just pool.....etc....etc..

We must support our supporters if we are to succeed.

Just FYI, that was Tom Rossman (Dr. Cue).

Funny how Tom and I were just talking about how many people often confuse him with Paul Frankel (Dr. Cue vs. Professor-Q-Ball).

Perhaps we can make that a big grudge match.
