I realized a few things. How correct they are I don?t know or even valid, but I sure understand the geometry of making a shot.
There is only one point on the object ball to contact which result is a dead center pocket.
There is only one point for the cue ball to be on the table, at time of contact with the object ball, which will result in dead center pocket of the object ball. The red dot ball is a cue ball at time of contact with the object ball. The red dot is the contact patch of the cue ball. The contact patch is where the ball meets the table.
No matter where you are shooting from on the table, there is only one point on the table for the cue ball to be, at time of contact with the object ball, which will result in a dead center pocket of the object ball.
The center of the cue ball, at time of contact with the object ball, is always a ? ball from the contact point on the object ball. Since this is a sphere, the center is also the contact patch of the ball. So, the contact patch, the bottom of the cue ball, will always be a ? ball from the outer edge of the object ball. Also the distance between object ball and cue ball contact patches is always 1 ball.
Where you shoot from on the table determines the concept of amount of hit. Full hit at Ball A, half hit at Ball B but still only one point on the table for the cue ball to be, at time of contact with the object ball, which results in a dead center pocket of the object ball.
No matter what English/Speed is used; there is only one point on the table for the cue ball to be, at time of contact with the object ball, which results in a dead center pocket of the object ball..
What English/Speed is used determines the direction and amount that the cue ball contact patch, at time of contact with the object ball, will rotate left or right from the dead center pocket contact point of the object ball.
Anyway, this is how I see things. This has made more sense to me than anything. I can get a real visualization of where the cue ball needs to be.
