Well it was another great time at the Western BCA Regional 8-ball event. Its always nice to run into so many great people and players congregating in one venue. This tourney, besides a couple of Pechauer Tour stops, is one of the few times that we have a large event in the Northwest. Here is a recap of my progress throughout the tourney.

Approximate player counts for the mens events: Masters - 81 ; Open A - 180 ; Open B - 250. Quite a few.

Tuesday: Drove down to Lincoln City after work. I checked into the hotel and then went to the casino to get some practice in. Everyone that I knew was already eliminated from the scotch doubles tourney. However the tag team of Queen Linda/Mike Zimmerman were busy battling it out with Glenn Atwell/Andrea Saenz-Maes for the championship. Glenn/Andrea won the match and Masters Scotch Doubles title..I am not sure of the score. I then went to play some limit $3/$6 holdem and left the night up a whopping $29. Luckily I won the high hand for the hour with Q's full of 10's, paying me $50.

Wednesday: Well since I had checked the board and had a first round BYE I did not have to play until 4:00pm. I won that match 7-2. That was the only match that was scheduled that day with the other events starting. I went downstairs to play poker again..this lime leaving up $115.

Thursday: Won my opening match 7-4 to see my next opponent to be Dan Louie. Jumped up 3-2 on Dan and easily could have been 5-0. Can't make mistakes versus a player like Dan. After dry breaks on my last few cracks I lost 3-7. So it was off to the losers bracket. I won my next two matches 7-4, 7-5 and that was it for the day finishing at 2AM and having a 9AM match.

Friday: I showed up tired but ready to play. Won my opening match 7-2. I then played Kenny Dodd and it was a tight match the whole way. He took advantage of my inability to finish off a few racks. at 6-6 I came up empty on the break, he ran to his last few balls left but had a tight squeeze of a ball between a few of mine and missed. I ran out for the 7-6 win. I then played Mike Zimmerman and played a great match missing one shot and taking advantage of Mike's mistakes, won 7-2. My final match was littered with my own mistakes versus Darrold Crane and led to my demise. It was me and him versus me, losing the match 7-4 to come in 4th place.

Approximate results that I know about:
1st - Dan Louie ~$1500
2nd - Todd Marsh ~$1150
3rd - Darrold Crane ~$850
4th - Me $590
5/6th - Mike Zimmerman ~$390
- Steve Linglebach
7/8th - Kenny Dodd ~$275
- Darren Walding

I think Atwell lost two hill-hill matches to finish at the low end of the money. There was a $100 ring game with 7 players that Atwell and someone else chopped some way at the end. Our team did okay and got 7th/8th out of the 22 teams good enough for $60/ea.

After teams was over we preceded to get sloshed and somehow got talked into playing a friendly 10-ball ring game $2 on the 5 and $3 on the 10 with 5 other players. I was up $85 when they kicked us out at 4AM.

Another regional tourney in the books. This next Thursday-Sunday is the ACS regional tourney in Shelton, WA at Little Creek Casino. Should be a fun time also.

Lately, I have been taking the long road back in every tournament. In Lincoln City, Mike and I lost the first match we played (hill-hill) and came back all the way through to the finals, beat them one set and lost the last set when the wheels fell off the bus. The disadvantage to being on the B side is that you play from 9 am til 2 or 3 am then get up at 7 to come back at 9 am the next morning. We spent 4 days like that. And I was still sick. :(

Same thing happened in singles down there. I knew I was in a tough bracket and lost my first match hill-hill, then at least got into the money before I went down.

In singles for Mike, he ran into Danny earlier than you did and he just played awesome. Mike said Dan played one rack that he said he never could have played and it was the most spectacular out he has ever seen. When it was 2-1 for Dan, Mike saw Dan trying to run out and Mike thought for sure it would end up 2-2. There were 3 different clusters that Danny broke out, he made a long ugly combination that had about 2 feet between each ball, he got on the short side near the end rail to play a ball in the only pocket it could go in and then on the 8, it was frozen to another ball and had no pocket. If he shot it with draw to force the frozen balls forward, it would still only go to the end rail. Well, he drew it and it forced forward and then went off one of Mike's balls. Danny got a standing ovation for that runout. I later asked Danny if he knew it would go off Mike's ball and he said no, he just shot it.

That made it 3-1 and Mike came up dry on the break and Dan ran out, which made it 4-1 and Mike got totally demoralized. Mike can thank me for getting Dan to qualify for BCA, lol.

All in all, it was a good time. I lived on Juicy Fruit and Sucrets. I bruised a rib from coughing and I rebruised it yesterday. :( One day, we never ate at all, playing so many matches.

In team, neither Mike's team, nor Danny's team won, it was Ivan Doty and Mike Stephen's team that took it down.

We won $1400 for Scotch Doubles, I won $75 for 7/8 singles. Mike won $400 for 5/6 singles. So overall, we did fine and are looking forward to Vegas.

Yeah that was another of the strong teams down there. Ivan Doty, Mike Stevens, Gary French, Bob Zack, and Steve Linglebach.

My team actually beat Mike's team down there hill-hill in the losers bracket when Mike Jensen got tied up on his last ball before the 8.
