Hey everyone. Here is something interesting. An amateur pool league now offers one pocket as a game. I wonder how many will give it a shot.
I don’t know anything about NAPA. How would a 1P
League work? Their website had few details- but I didn’t send a message yet etc…
NAPA has a lot of players in CO. Someone would probably play.i would actually be interested in this. anybody else in CO that would try it?
Since DCC started doing it, it seems re-rack pretty much is already the norm for most tournaments.I kind of don't like that if you make a ball on the break it's a re-rack and doesn't count and you break over. I hope that doesn't become the norm.

i emailed the league operator, we will see if they respondNAPA has a lot of players in CO. Someone would probably play.
regardless of who racks, one pocket isnt really “designed” to be a break and run game. Theres so many other games where you break make a ball and keep your opponent in the chair. Even in straight pool if you were feeling crazy you could bank the corner ball and run 150.It’s been the rule at the DCC for a while I think. To me it makes perfect sense in rack your own. Not so much in opponent rack.
I think it'd be a pretty awful feeling to lay down a perfect break and uh oh a ball goes in. Now you got a break again. And on your second break the cue ball catches the end ball and sells out. I can see the point of it other than it happens so rarely and it's not like 9-ball you're an automatic winner. Now if they want to take the nine on the break out and just spot it and continue to shoot I'm all for that.regardless of who racks, one pocket isnt really “designed” to be a break and run game. one pocket is the only game where its SUPPOSED to be a back and forth conversation at the table when played perfectly, instead of a solo endeavor that your opponent watches.
i like the rule.

I never did like the nine on the break winning and especially not in a hill-hill game. I think if a game goes Hill hill you should have to win by two.
I was once at a Grady Matthews tournament where they did play you had to win by two. One of the matches was Mike Siegel and Buddy Hall. It went back and forth with I think Sigel won 25-23.
The crowd never moved this was one of the most exciting matches I've ever seen as they kept getting on the hill and then the other guy would tie it up and he'd get on the hill and the other guy would tie it up.
It's kind of one of the nice things about pool is you don't have to live and die by specific rules. Promoter can put on a tournament having break from the box having break from the rail win by two race to seven race to 13 plan anyway you want I like that.
I will add that in a double elimination tournament I don't like the loser having to win twice. As I see it the winner's bracket and a loser's bracket are almost like two separate tournaments both with winners that now playoff for the title. They should play maybe extra long match. Which is commonly done now.
Diliberto used to have a proposition he would you play like 8 to 2 but he gets the break. He would put the cue ball about a foot from a rack and like 50% of the time or more he'd make the corner ball.you’re not wrong, it sucks to break and make a ball and then break poorly. but at least you get a chance. if you break poorly thats on you. If your opponent breaks and runs you just sit there and say good shooting.
They both have pros and cons no doubt. i’ll play either way that my opponent wants to play, though.
i will also add that i mostly play on a permaracked table so making the corner ball with a second ball break isnt terribly difficult.
They're going to start out w/no handicaps, races to 2. Maybe "2 out of 3" sounds better.I'll see if I can find out more about it tonight, I'm playing NAPA league singles. I'd guess one pocket would also be singles; wonder if they'll handicap by ball count or games. In 8/9 ball there are some 9-2 races - that won't work for one pocket.
