Just wanted to update y'all on my recent trip to Nashville where I met up w/Hombone for a great afternoon.
First, Nashville is a great place to visit. Everyone was so friendly. I have never been called "Darlin' ", "Sweety", Hun", so often in my life....and the women were polite, too
! It was a pleasure to ride the commuter buses the hotel provided. We took Purdman's advice and had brisket on Broadway (Jack's), which is right in the heart of the honky tonks - which were way fun. My wife & I celebrated our 22nd anniversary at the Grand Ol' Opry-we both forgot that it was a live radio show, and had a blast from the past great experience.
Next day we visited Vanderbilt's campus and spent some time in Hillsborough Village (Diane saw it on TV watching Martha Ray, Norma Rae, Rachel Rae or some name ending in Ray). We worked our way up to the famous Bluebird Cafe where young songwriters perform the songs they have written & others made famous. There were 4 performers, 3 women & one songwriter team (men) that rotated the whole 2 hours. It was very Nashvilley. However, it started out with one of the Women announcing this was Momma-Paluza night (Mother's who Rock) because it was the night before Mother's day. As soon as she announced that
(about 6:30pm) I looked at my watch and started to count: only 18 hours till Hambone picks me up and we go play some at JOB's.
Hambone is the MAN! If anyone ever had any concerns that he won't follow through on his commitments, I am here to tell you he is a man of his word, no matter the consequences. When I posted I would be in town and he offered to meet up with me, neither of us realized it was Mother's Day. All I can say, I hope he's still married after blowing off the whole day with me, including dinner! I want to thank his wife personally for allowing Hambone to come out & play - you are awesome.
Hambone picked me up at the hotel around 12:30 & we headed for JOB's. Great poolroom. Built in 3 sections there's something for everyone. We checked out a table and Hambone insisted I play with his Varney sneaky. I was happy to have the chance to finally play with one of his cues since reading so much about them. No adjustment was needed, so I felt comfortable with the cue and, of course, Hambone. I couldn't have asked for a better host and day of pool. THANK YOU AGAIN! And now we have something in common, we both are the new owners of Alex Brick's diamond wood jump/break cues. I didn't love the feel of breaking and have x-breaker that I love & just bought the new Gulyassy j/b, but that thing jumps like a monster and we just had to have it.
Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet Tennesseejoe & Opie as originally planned, but it was Mother's Day after all. I still can't believe Hambone met with me once we found out. He's awesome!
Thanks for a great day. Dave
