My cousin Vinny (no, really, his name is Vinny and he’s my father’s brother’s son) runs a little book in the back of a hair salon just off Bloomfield Avenue and about 30 minutes north of the site of the 2013 three cushion tournament. I urged him to tout the field. He did some data mining, and called me back a few hours later.
In a raspy voice, Vinny said: “Pedro’s the chalk. Mazin and Hugo are puppies. And Miguel best to show.”
I had no idea what that meant, so I asked him for something I might understand.
He thinks Pedro is 3 to 5 without a shot clock and even money with one. Mazin is 5 to 2, Hugo is 3 to 1, Miguel is 4-1, Sonny is 8-1, Kang is 10-1 and Jae is 8-1. Hallon and Ashby are both 20-1. The field is 100 to 1. The best quinella is Pedro and Hugo.
There you have it. Vinny says there’s no action, however. Something called the Final Four is the same weekend.
