Watchin' a match, a good player had a Frontal overhang thick/long flattop haircut.... player didn't need a hat, no Table Light glare because of That.... Smart.
Like living in the deserts of Africa adjust or die.

I wear a cap to play pool during both pool leagues , my goal is to get a hat similar to what UJ Puckett was so famous for wearing !
I loved the looks of that hat , I feel I could shot almost as well as he could wearing one ! Ha ha

Rusty, Hubert Cokes I think was the man I was impressed with seeing em in the sixties.
Because of the way he chose to eliminate glare.
I think his set up was common with card dealers. Visor.
At Johnston City he wore a Visor brim? Not a hat.... had a cut out then stitched and inserted (see thru Green Plastic)....hat allowed light to come thru green and removed the glare allowing your eyes to not tire.
Smart.

I thought it was a interesting choice of Earl's to wear sun glasses to play pool in a tournament I seen on tv years ago .
There's a fun in the sun pool tournament that is played outside in the street between two bars so if you want shade you wear it in the form of a hat and sun glasses !
Its Scotch doubles and I've never found a gal to play as my partner in it , I guess I'm to picky ha ha !

When and if I do I'll be wearing my palm leaf cowboy hat I love them !

Bend to taste.

The last felt hat I bought was a custom made Rich Rand hat made in Billings Montana , if you have watched the Steve McQueen movie Tom Horn that hat he wears is exactly what mine looks like but mine is chocolate brown .
I picked it up from Rich the same day the movie opened in a theater in Billings and after getting popcorn and a soda I walked in to watch the show and over heard a young boy tell his mom Look there's Tom Horn ! I turned and nodded to him and he smiled the biggest smile I've seen in ages it made both of our nights !
I've still got the hat it's only wore for special occasions .
