I just did a quick Google search and it looks like the same table sold (used) for $1450. May have been a heckuva deal on that one. It looks like when they were new, they were around $4k.

Rails don't bolt through the slate, they bolt through a wood perimeter framework.

I don't like how rails react if they aren't connected to the slate.

They are not being sarcastic, there are better used tables out there for the same or less. I would also stay away from the guy who moves them up/down stairs for $150 !
The rails absolutely must bolt thru the slate if the table will have any chance of playing decent, it doesnt mean it will play well if the rails bolt thru the slate, just that there is no chance of it playing well when not bolted to the slate.
