Neck Problem, Can't Play

Every morning before breakfast I stretch and exercise for about 45 minutes. Afterwards I take a shower, eat breakfast, and then I hit balls for a little while before work. When I was stretching this morning, I was laying on my back on the floor just stretching my arms, neck and back, and I felt something in my neck kind of pull. I stopped stretching and my neck hurts so bad when I turn it to the left even slightly. I can't even get halfway down in my stance without it hurting very badly. I am a young guy who is very physically fit, this has never happened before. Does anyone know if playing pool for so many years could have weakened a spot in my neck, and that's why I pulled something when I was stretching? Either way I am pretty worried and upset that I won't be able to play pool for a long time, it's pretty bad. I'll be going to see a chiropractor on Friday so hopefully this can be fixed, but the way it feels, it feels pretty stuck. Has anyone had anything like this happen to them?

I have, but mines definately disc related, yours may be muscle. Try ibuprofen and sleep it may clear up over night.

First of all, talk to your doctor. Let your doctor determine whether an X-ray is advisable ansd whether you need to see a specialist. I'd be wary of doing any neck stretching until you've researched the matter.

I, too, had a neck problem, in about 1999 (I was in my early forties at the time) and it was definitely due to playing pool. Just like you, I knew that, once my doctor assured me that there was no serious problem, talking to a chiropractor was a good idea. I needed about half a dozen visits for treatment and for seven years now, I haven't had any neck issues.

I wish you good luck in overcoming this problem quickly.

This has happened many times to me.

Go to a GOOD Chiropractor and he can fix it in one visit, two at most. Mine just has me relax and he gets behind me holding my head in his hands and kinks it a certian way and whamo, it better. Then I go home and rotate ice & heat and if necessary go back for one more visit. You just have a pinched nerve, no biggie and not pool related. My bill is on it's way.

I have degenerative disk pretty bad.. really fun at 26 years old let me tell. I have taken about 2000 mg of Ibuprofen today.

I would recomend stretching after your shower, the warm/hot water will work into your muscles. And dont pull on your neck too hard when stretching it.
