Need 115v to dc speed controller

Gary, How many amps at 12 volt? How many amps at 24 volts? and how many volts do you want to run them at??

Here is an estimate: May change according to the actual specs of the motor. These are based on the approx. costs of the materials including shipping to get it to me. 12 vdc, 8 amp approx 96 watts.

Enclosure $6.00
Transformer $12.00
Rectifier $12.00
PWM Speed control unit $20.00
DPDT switch $5.00
Misc wire & connectors $3.00

I am guessing about an hour to put it all togather = $25.00

Looks like about $85.00. That's just an estimate. Perhaps there is a cheaper way to do it. Looks like that $20.00 wasn't such a great deal.

Actually, this doesn't sound bad. $105 for a good dc motor and controller. Sherline gets up to $300 for their setup. If someone wanted to just make one themselves even cheaper. By the way, I should point out here that it would just be cheaper to buy a power supply on e-bay and add the $20 for the controller as I have already pointed out in Lee's sale post. I would think that most cue builders should at least be able to wire that up.

Just go to e-bay and search for 12v power supply. Then find one in the DC power supply area and do a search for 12. A hole bunch will pop up or just search for this item # 270595228193. Most of the good ones will come from China however they are actually getting pretty quick about shipping from that country.

That power supply is the same type that is used in the video game cabinets in arcades. If you have a local vending company near you, you may be able to buy one from them, or a vending supply website. If running straight for long amount of time, I'd put a small fan to cool it, it extends the life of those.

Try www.surpluscenter.com They have a vareity of DC motors and speed controls at really good prices, not to mention bearings, pumps and a lot of other good stuff for cuemaking machines and jigs. I've been buying from them for along time.

This 2 amp unit will run a lot of the smaller 12 volt DC gear motors. Add a dimmer switch and you will have a wide range of speed control. It may not be enough amps to handle the motor mentioned, but for making slow rotating finishing set ups, this would be a good power supply. I have heard some of the toy train controllers will put out more amps at 12 volt DC, so that is something to look into also.

I went though the same thing, here is what I found, but at the end I decided not to go though with it, due to the cost and access parts and wieght.
Please see pictures below:
First you will need a 12VDC power supply with at least 6A max rating.
Second you will need a 12V 15A PWM controller. and then you gat to wire them all togethter, I have 5 of those motor and I would sell them all for $50 if I could, its realy not worth the effort, I have a very nice small size
Power supply $35, motor $20, PWM controller $25 plus all the time you will need to put it together.
I am ordering 5 of those power supplies next week, in an effort to put those motors on a portable tipper lathe, just to get rid of them. I will PM you the links later.

Ps the only good thing about this motor is that you can also add a reverse switch to it
