need a break stick

I'm back in the game six months now. Have my player and love it but need a break stick. I don't want to go big dollars. Just got an Action cue with phenolic tip which I am returning. I am thinking about getting a one piece house stick and sending it to a cuemaker to customize. Any thoughts?

There are a lot of lower priced cues that will break a ton. I remember some of my best were the cheap $40 Players sneaky pete and an old schmelke cue...both re-tipped with a harder tip.

That would be my suggestion...but definitely think a white diamond tip is the way to go, over phenolic, samsara, or others.

Just my 2 cents..

Going to keep the stick and replace the ferrule and look into the white diamond. Thanks for the suggestions.

Buy the cheapest Cuetec you can find and put a White Diamond tip on it.

That would be the last of my suggestions. You're basicalling telling him to put one of hardest tips out there on an unknown ferrule type.

What was wrong with the Action cue to start with that you didn't like? The J&J/Kaiser break cues are nice for the money, around $100. Could you link the cue in question?

Actually a new user and not that technologically advanced. I'll work on it and see if I can post a pic of the ferrule/tip. Used the stick last night and broke well with it but didn't like the hit from the phenolic tip. Playing a small tournament tonight and will break with it again. Maybe it will grow on me. My shooter is a Joss with a medium tip and love the hit on it. I'm thinking the too hard phenolic is not giving me any feedback and feels unsatisfying.

Well the problem is the phenolic used on cheaper cues isn't very good quality wise. I keep blowing those tips apart. Two on my cues and two on other peoples cues. Not so for quality phenolic. I need to see a pic of the ferrule to be able to tell you what to do.

But if you don't like the hit of the phenolic now, putting a white diamond is the worst thing you do. As far as a leather tip, there are plenty of hard tips to choose from. I just don't want you to do work now just to have a failure down the road. So if the tip/ferrule is low quality material an entire replacement is advice. Otherwise the tip can be ground flat and a new tip of your choice.
